Who to cheer and who to fear?

As a new member of the coffee room, i was wondering if anyone could clue me up on the usual suspects of this forum? I've spent some time reading through the posts and there seems to be some intelligent provocateurs but also a hysterical, fundamentalist contingent, or maybe they have a sense of humour i have as yet not encountered. So whats the story?

Fear jodi, o' Wacky One.
She may look meek and mild, but behind that seemingly innocent looking face, lies a creature every bit as vicious as Monty Python's Killer Rabbit.
Here's hoping you have a Holy Hand Grenade....

Ok, I'll take a chance on this.
First, welcome to Piano World. Second, please add to your initial post by giving all of us a bit more of an introduction. I see in your profile that you're from England, a lecturer, own a yamaha and heard about Piano World from a friend. We'd all enjoy knowing a bit more about you, like who your friend is (assuming they're a regular poster here), how long you've been playing piano (if you do), if you're in the piano industry or not, etc.
My reason for asking for a bit more info has to do with a recent flood of new members who were not real people, but were instead just coming here to create conflict. (Round here, these "members" are known as "trolls"). A new member who immediately asks "So whats the story" regarding other members, and comments on "a hysterical, fundamentalist contingent" raises a few flags in my head.
Now to try to answer your question. Hmmm, we have intelligent provocateurs as you call them from all demographics. Religion, politics, you name it, we've got people with passionate views.
We've also got people with ZERO tolerance for trolls. Actually, that's most of us. My advice would be to say hello (via a bit of an intro), then simply start participating in various threads. If you show respect to everyone as you begin posting, you'll get respect in return. Of course you can present your views and even have some passionate debates and *still* show people respect.
Pretty much I'd say you'll reap what you sow.
Have fun. And again, welcome to Piano World.
Dan

Thanks for the welcome Dan. I've added my own photograph as my avatar. I teach Digital Arts to a range of college and university students and am a keen musician with a couple of low profile albums released over the years. I am currently working on a new, hopefully higher profile album to release soon. At the moment cancer is keeping me at home, hence the coffee room membership for some mind food. Again thanks for the introduction and i'll try to stick to your sensible advice Dan.

Oh sorry, by the way i dont think it would be appropriate to say who my coffee room friend is unless they want me to, which unfortunately, they don't.

NAK, WONDERFUL poem... put a smile on my face, EVEN THOUGH it didn't include me Wacky Irqai: Welcome to the forums! I have a feeling you'll fit right in around here. We're pretty much a diverse group of people who think too much. You seem to share a lot of the same interests as many here though, so I'm sure you'll be just fine.

Oh and W.I., here is a little bit about me: I'm a liberal homosexual atheist woman, that is in favor of capital punishment and abortion. I am one of the oldest members here, and I have had so many posts that I had to start over, as I have been a member of the piano forums since 1999. I hate movies and golf, and I never want to learn to play Rach3. (or maybe it's the opposite of all that) Just kidding, welcome to the forum, you will LOVE it here!!! This place has some of the most genuine, intelligent, and talented people on Earth; brought together from all over the world by the uberly respected power of FRANK. Feel free to PM me (or anyone) with any question and we will be happy to help! Shoot, I didn't even know what "IMO" meant, or how to edit or quote a post before! Enjoy

I'm sorry 89th, maybe you were just a tad over enthusiastic back then but debate is information so you must have accrued a lot of it and that can only empower us all.

Kluurs, yeh well cancer treatment is a bit like American foreign policy, misunderstood, heavy handed, a touch indiscriminate, and often unpleasant, but full of good intentions, and sometimes, pretty effective.
