Hello,

We have just purchased a Gerhard Heintzman "Cabinet Grand" which the owner thought to be 1920s vintage. It is serial #22030, and is an upright about 54" tall with curved legs and mahogany finish. Based on info found on this page: http://photos.cyberflunk.com/2000june/Piano/
it appears ours may be closer to 1910 or earlier vintage. Ours appears very similar to the one on this web page, although not nearly as worn as this one.
I've been trying find more information on this piano, and how Gerhard Heintzman relates to the better known Heintzman company. Any information on this would be appreciated.

Also, the strings, soundboard, plate and pinblock appear intact, and the piano has even action, and is not too far out of tune considering it has been stored for 2+ years. But, one hammer is broken mid shaft. No sign of the hammer head. How difficult is it to replace these and find a reasonable match for the head?

Have your piano properly inspected by a qualified tech who can easily give you an estimate. [Our own shop is doing these pianos on a daily basis.]

Repairs on older pianos are often involving complete components such as the action, rather
than just one single hammer head.
This does not have to be expensive and prevents the piano to be repaired 'piecemeal'

G.Heintzman was a respected Canadian builder and directly related to Theodor Heintzman, whose pianos were called "Heintzman&Co"

If you call me I'll be happy to fax you the complete company history in more detail.

Meantime, congatulations and enjoy!
