President Bush on Wednesday will call on Congress to increase funding for NASA by nearly a billion dollars annually over the next five years, while radically transforming the space agency's manned space flight goals -- from low Earth orbit -- to audacious missions to the moon and ultimately, Mars.

Moon, we were there 50 years ago, right? My vote is to take the next step :-D

if countries weren't so blinded by their ideals, they would have already made space the next frontier.

I think they should build a 99.9% of the light speed travelling shuttle to reach the Gliese 518 system. They say that Gliese 518 MAY be habitable.

Humans have not ever been beyond low Earth orbit. The Apollo fiasco they orbitted Earth and played the video tapes. Then they "lost" the video types. Now the official NASA doctrine is that the technology to get to the moon has been "lost" as well. Inadvertantly those of us who have endured this propaganda mess are now seeing the unraveling, although there are new magic-stories from same power monkeys, and no lack of innured shameless public to mumble and follow.

Tax dollars at work. They're all paid like kings and get the most deluxe no-limit healthcare- all paid for, for their lifetime. Now go look up the distance from Earth to the International "Space" Station, and look up the distance from the Earth to the Moon. Then go fry an egg in a frying pan like what unfiltered solar radiation would do to a human in a tin can or a slip on suit. Like Leonard Cohen said, "Everybody knows."

The kicker is the aggression of the magic stories circa 2001.

If you want to see real astronauts, look up interviews with Cosmonauts. They were the first to do a space walk. They talk like engineers with a work ethic, serious people.

Look up interviews with US astronauts. Many of them talk like carnival cowboys, propagandits. The most famous dresses crazy and it very aggressive. One more recent talks like he is telling deranged children's stories on drugs. He is on video explaining how the technology has been lost. It is truly shameful and makes one question the future of the country between the gamesmanship of the government and willingness of people to be cowardly and play dumb. Half of the US high school graduates can no longer go mathematics.

No humans will be traveling to Mars. I wince every time someone is telling this jingo and being paid to do it.

They do not even send a dog or other mammal outside of low earth orbit.
