Play a Mozart Concerto with a Professional Orchestra in Vienna this Summer!

Mozart! Vienna! Salzburg!

These names are synonymous with classical music and conjure up images unlike anywhere else in the world. Not surprisingly, musical study in this environment, steeped in the tradition and culture of the great masters, brings a level of inspiration and insight unequaled.

At Piano*Fest*Austria we've frequently heard the phrase "life-altering experience" as our participants depart. The setting is incomparable. Amid high ridges crested by ruins of medieval castles west of the Vienna Woods, the 12th-century abbey Stift Altenburg, renowned for one of the most beautiful baroque libraries in all Europe, hosts our courses. 20 pianists, chosen by auditions in Vienna, New York and Los Angeles, will perform Mozart Piano Concerti with the Wiener Residenz Orchester, conducted by Robert Lehrbaumer (Vienna) and Robert Ward (Pasadena) in a series of Festival Concerts in glittering Viennese palaces, including Palais Auersperg, home of Baron Rofrano, courtier to Empress Maria Theresa and the real-life "Rosenkavalier" of Strauss's opera.

You can visit the website at www.pianofestaustria.org to view the program as well as links to the concert sites.

Interested? You are cordially invited!

Piano*Fest*Austria is a festival with courses dedicated to the study and performance of the Mozart Piano Concerti with categories for both student and professional level performers.

Please note that there is a special Auditors category designed for teachers, parents, and general Mozart-lovers. Our location makes a convenient base for those wishing to combine festival-going with excursions to Vienna, Salzburg and along the Danube river valley.

We have all observed that in most concerto competitions, only the winner gets to play with orchestra while all the rest are denied that invaluable experience. A search of the internet will show that Piano*Fest*Austria fills that unfortunate gap in a pianist's artistic training.

Through a series of rehearsals all our pianists will learn how to perform with a chamber orchestra.

Participants will immerse themselves in the Viennese tradition of Mozart performance with our Vienna-trained artist faculty, and through this process of lessons and rehearsals develop an authentic interpretation which brings out the character of these extraordinary works.

Following auditions this winter nearly all Festival Soloists have been chosen.

Nevertheless, there are a few openings in the Concerto Study Course for talented high school and college undergraduate pianists to play single movements of the concerti.

In addition to rehearsals with orchestra, this 2-week program offers private lessons, master classes, duet coaching and special sessions on Lieder and operatic aria accompanying with Ildiko Raimondi, current star of the Vienna State Opera, as well as excursions to nearby castles and the musical highlights of Vienna, including Mozart's Figarohaus.

Piano*Fest*Austria runs from July 20 to August 3.
