WORCESTER (MA)— On Monday, John O’Conor will be the first person to officially take the wheel — or rather, the piano keys — of the new “Rolls Royce” Hamburg Steinway grand piano at Mechanics Hall, 321 Main St.

The $150,000 piano was flown from Germany and delivered to Mechanics Hall late last month.

“It’s a gorgeous piano. It really is like a Rolls Royce,” O’Conor said.

The German Steinway “Model D-274” concert grand is 8-feet 11 3/4 -inches long and weighs 1,058 pounds.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. Monday, O’Conor, an internationally acclaimed pianist, will perform a concert debuting the piano and also celebrating Mechanics Hall’s 150th anniversary. Invitations to the concert have been sent to supporters of Mechanics Hall, and tickets are also on sale for the event for $30.
