My girlfriend and I are attending this one. We will be the short people in Box 14.

It should be fun, eh?

National Philharmonic Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich & Brian Ganz
National Philharmonic

Music Center at Strathmore

Symphonic Blockbusters

Piotr Gajewski, conductor
Brian Ganz, piano
National Philharmonic

RACHMANINOFF, Piano Concerto No. 2
SHOSTAKOVICH, Symphony No. 5

It’s “From Russia with Love” as the extraordinary pianist Brian Ganz headlines the opening concert of National Philharmonic’s 2006-2007 season, performing Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Shostakovich’s emotionally charged Symphony No. 5 provides the perfect musical contrast for the evening. “There has never been any doubt that Brian Ganz is a good pianist, but last night’s recital ... offered strong evidence that he is a great one.” —The Washington Post

Definetly, especially since Mr. Ganz is my new piano teacher!

Wow!

Qualification: I know diddley about classical music, but I do appreciate it and a good performance. There is no substitute for live music of any genre.

Brian Ganz's performance was outstanding. I even recognized at least one of the movements. It was probably used in a movie. The audiance loved it. He returned to stage 3 or 4 times for the standing ovation. He was so dramatic and both he and the conductor seemed to love their work.

We were also impressed witht our first visit to the Strathmore Music center. Great seats and acoustics and it is easy to get to. We will return.

appassionata9,

He teaches? That is awesome. Does the passion he exhibited on stage carry over to your classes? Is he local to the DC area?

I know! Wasn't it absolutely incredible? I loved it, especially because the Rach2 is one of my favorite concertos. How did you like the Shostakovich? I thought it was awesome.
Yes, he teaches at Peabody too. My classes are great! He's somewhat local, he's in Annapolis.

Can you please send warm greetings to Brian Ganz from Jeffrey Biegel? We tied for first place in Paris in 1989 (long long time ago!) He was so kind and played beautifully--I had hoped we might stay in touch--would like very much to touch base with him again after nearly 20 years have passed.
