The Asian board game, over 4000 years old. More complex than chess.

This is my other main hobby, in addition to piano (and reading).

Jeffrey,

*More* complex than chess? And I want to play this game for what reason, exactly? ;\)

Cindy -- who taught her kids to play hearts this week, which was a total hoot to watch

Cindy-

What a coincidence! My wife and I taught our kids how to play hearts this week, too. We used to play it all the time in the barracks (we were in the Air Force) many years ago. The kids are now officially addicted! \:D

Jerry,

Don't you just have choke back a laugh when they open play with the ace of spades?

Cindy -- who finds it difficult not to peek at their cards if they're going to wave their cards all around like they do

My 13 yr old son learned the hard way that you only open with the Ace of Spades of you also have the Queen. And I don't know how many times I have to tell my 16 yr old to stop holding her cards so I can see them. Last game we played, my son left the table to use the bathroom, and he put his hand on the table FACE UP!! What a riot! \:D

Oh, your kids are older, that's right.

Mine are 13, 10 and 7.

My dad was military. Did you also grow up playing pinochle (sp)? I love the double-deck version.

Speaking of chess (kind of), later this month I'll be playing in the intercollegiate chess championship in Kansas. Any well-wishing would be appreciated. \:\)

Eusebius,

Good luck!

And remember, civility is boring. So do topple the chess table if it gets too quiet in there.

Promise you'll report back?

Thanks, Cindy. Perhaps I'll be bored with civility by the time the tournament rolls around, what with this room and everything. I daresay I may even forego the obligatory pre-game handshakes!

I'll be sure to let everyone know how I did, unless I lose of course, in which case I'll lie. :p

Eusebius,

Do the handshake, then stick your tongue out at your opponent before you sit down.

Best of luck. \:\)

I'm afraid that may be miscontrued sexually.

But then again, that could work in my favor psycologically...

Thanks for the tip!
