OK. Right now, this "Fun Stuff" board is not among the list of most frequently visited sites at PW. We only have a measly 218 posts. Embarrassing.

But the bar isn't all that high. The Piano Teacher's Forum has only 1229 posts since it has existed. Ha!

I say we try to overtake those piano teachers, and then we can appeal to Frank for star billing. But I can't do it alone. I need some windbags to help! ;\)

Here's another post. Is the count why this board isn't up there with the "big" ones?? Has this been here all along?

Thanks for the post!

Seriously, I have no idea why this board didn't make the cut. I like to imagine that we have influence, though. (Don't spoil my illusion of power. \:\) )

What's a grotrian? I suppose this is something I should know, but humor me.

It's Pique's piano. Grotians are wonderful and way to expensive for my bank account.

Grotians, Steinways, Yamahas...sheesh. In my world, there are two types of pianos--"black" and "other." I, for example, have an "other." This classification system works very well for my simple mind.

And my system also does away with grand, console, studio, etc. Very efficient.

Yes, this board has been around for a long time. No, Frank hand-picked which boards get lumped in the "Popular Forums" group.

When we started the Piano World CD Project, the first series of "project outline" posts appeared on this board, then Frank decided to open up a separte dedicated Forum for the CD project and moved them there. May be because it got too serious to belong in the "just for the fun of it" forum?

Perhaps those who complain that there's too much uncivility in the Coffee Room can use this Forum as a psuedo Coffee Room with a different civility standard... is that what's going on here?

Or may be this forum has been empty because we are so lacking in the capability to do things "just for the fun of it ?"

It's just a matter of numbers .. the piano teachers forum has only 1229 posts.. this place is not far behind.

Y'all have posted too much in the Coffee Room already to be keeping the "Tea Room" a secret. I hope the name "Just for the fun of it" stays and it's not renamed "Tea Room." That way, for newbies like me we'll understand that this forum is not meant for heavy duty philosophical or political discussion but rather just fun stuff like that big killer whale pen!s that Frank posted .

Hey, and tell me again why Frank is allowed to post full frontal nud!ty and everyone else is criticized? ;\)

What did he "ask" Pique? Hopefully, not "is she some nut case?" He's coming on the 23rd for my Estonia's first tuning. I'm really looking foward to it. It's finally starting to go out of tune in a few places and get a tiny bit twangy on some notes.

well, not "ask" really. he just mentioned that you had mentioned me to him. i'm sure that i'm the one he thinks is the nut case, anyway.

he made a huge difference in my piano's performance and i am loving it. he's a very talented mechanic. glad you've got him, too. \:\)

That's so good to hear, Pique. Alex has told me the "words" to tell him and the setting to tune it to. As I mentioned, there wasn't much he could do with my old K&C spinet, so I didn't expect much. I'm really looking forward to having him tune my Estonia. I will be out of school so I can be there. Wouldn't have it any other way, as my hubbie is like yours, - too many guns gone off close to his ears. \:D

He said I wanted a strong attack and strong tonal development. He also told me to ask him to tune it to A442.

Teachum, pardon my ignorance, but I would like to know why anyone would want to tune a piano to something other than A440?

alex may want to chime in here and say why he made this recommendation, but among the reasons i have heard is that

1. the new strings are going to go out of tune faster, so set the pitch higher to begin with, to compensate

2. it's good to put a new soundboard under greater tension

3. setting the pitch higher can make the tone more brilliant, if that is your personal taste.

would love to know what techs here think of these rationales that i have heard.

Perhaps the words were more exactly, "tune it to A440 too". Better get this clarified. :p
