:howls of laughter:

Well, I will confess that I pulled a boner at the gas station once. I got out, pumped gas, put the nozzle back (of course), closed the tank, and started driving off.

Then the owner ran outside and began banging on my window as I was about to pull into traffic. I forgot to pay, it seems.

I usually use a credit card, but either I forgot to swipe it or it didn't take.

So why did that pump give me gas, then? Hmmmmmmmm?

Are most of the gas stations there pre pay? Most here are not, but as gas prices have gotten higher, there is talk about making more of them pre pay because the number of drive aways is increasing.

Based on the pictures above, I'd say some people were in a real hurry to drive away:-)

Do you have to pay for the hose if you do this?

I wonder what that would cost.

Friend of mine drove off with the hose still in the tank. Heard the loud noise signifying the detachment. He stopped, took the hose out and walked back in the gas station, placed the hose on the counter and said "I believe this is yours" and walked out.

In Oregon, we don't pump our own gas. It's nice to stay in the vehicle while an attendant does the dirty work. smile

New Jersey is like that, too. We were passing through and hopped out to fill our own tank. The guy was treating us like dummies, and then a friend filled us in.

I guess to the attendant it feels the same as a chef having a customer go back into the restaurant kitchen and fix himself a plate.

Out here during the sniper shootings D.C., some attendants refused to perform full service anymore.

I can't think of a station that allows you to pump without paying. Except that one, I guess.

The attendants tend to have a lot of bullet-proof glass in a special cage where they sit.

Hey, it's D.C.!
