The FCC is considering allowing people to use their cell phones throughout the flight. The current rule prohibits the use of cell phones during flight.

Oh, I don't like this idea one bit. Planes are loud and annoying enough without having both of your seat mates envelope you in their tedious little conversations while you pretend not to listen.

I happen to be one of those people who *screams* when she is on a cell phone. I am sorry; I cannot seem to control this, so I cope with it by not using my cell phone in public. I think you all should write your congressperson and beseech them to block this proposed rule change. 'Cause if you pull out your cell phone, I'll pull out mine. And I have a *lot* of minutes!

I have absolutely nothing to say that can't wait until I get to my destination.

Furthermore, I don't want to be that accessible all the time. In other words, there's nothing anyone can say to me that can't wait until I get to my destination.

I don't understand this addiction to phones and talking talking talking. Don't we all just get sick of ourselves and each other, ever??

I put them in as I approach the airport and take them out when I get to the hotel.

They do even more for stress-free traveling than drinking a lot of water.

Don't you love listening to how important people want you to think they are as they talk loudly on their cell phones at the airport?

"Yeah, make sure Dennis has the car waiting and fax those documents to my hotel. I don't want to proceed without the primary donor, if he's out, so am I. Yeah, I know, but listen, I'm going to be boarding in a minute so make sure you contact our investors and let them know when I will be arriving...blah..blah..blah..."

I don't like people who use cell phones in an inconsiderate manner and for some reason that seems to be quite a large number of people!!

NYC subways are free from cell phones but talk surfaces now and then about rigging up the tunnels so cell phones would work. Let me tell you! The minute they allow cell phones in the subways is the minute my company will have to dish out for a car service for me to and from work, or it is the minute I leave NYC!!! (Are you listening MTA!?!?)

On a plane, however, seeing how I'm not particularly fond of flying, the diversions might be welcome. Or maybe not. At any rate, if I was flying I'd probably be doped up on valium or something so I might not care all that much! Ha!

I ate breakfast in a neighborhood coffee shop the other day.
I sat at the counter since I was alone and just read my paper.
A woman next to me was jabbering away on her hellphone.
There was a large sign on the wall, "Be Courteous, Use Cellphones Outside."

I didn't say anything, but came this close to pointing to the sign.

This was not a fancy restaurant.

When I'm next to an obnoxious cell phone user, I just join in the conversation.

Obnoxious Cell Phone User (OCU) - "Hi, I'm four stops away, I'll be home in ten minutes."

Me - "Are you kidding? THe rate this train is moving, you better say 15."

OCU - "Can you pick up a couple extra steaks for this weekend?"

Me - "On Atkins, or just don't care about your colesterol? Personally, I can't eat steak anymore unless I want to stay close to home the next day - if you know what I mean."

OCU (covering other ear, and starting to move away) - "So, I'll see you at the station?"

Me - "Why don't you walk home? Who knows you might drop a couple."

OCU - "Gotta go. There's a crazy man next to me."

I would have said something if it were bothering me. I was once waiting the the B61 bus and this guy kept walking around and coming real close to me all the while practically shouting on his cell phone. I said to him, "Stop shouting in my face." He got ****ed and said it was a free country. I responded with something about manners. Hee hee.

I hate Cell-Phones. I have never owned one, and never will.

On NPR today, they interviewed some expert on cell phones. He explained why people rarely shout into regular landline phones but tend to shout into cell phones. Apparently, landlines are designed to give you feedback -- you can hear your own voice in them. This helps you modulate your own voice. Early landline telephones didn't have feedback, so people shouted into them as well.

Cell phones use a different technology, and right now cell phones do not give you feedback. You talk, but you can't hear yourself talking. So you shout. Someday, he said, cell phones may also give feedback to cut down on all the yelling.

Thank goodness! It's not me at all. It's my phone!
