I went to the Ringling Brothers Circus the other day and the music the band played was so loud that I hope that the musicians were wearing some sort of ear protection.

Have any of you ever played for the circus or in similar venues?

As for the Circus - give me the "Big Apple Circus" anytime. More traditional, smaller and great entertainment. \:\)

No, but the musicians that they employee are some of the best. Do you know that they have to respond to the clowns act on the fly. It's not rehearsed. They have to flow with the clowns timing instead of their own.

I didn't know that a lot of what is played is not rehearsed, they would have to be great musicians to be able "respond to the clowns...".

It would be interesting to know how long they stay with the Circus, or do they move around, if only for a change of pace?
