I note at least three posters in the 'Something Fun' thread note Lobster as a favorite food.
Do you know where Lobsters come from?
Kathyk (who is far softer in personam) and I have a standing invitation for Coffee Room members. Come visit and we will feed you .... Lobster.
Really.
At least three people out there can vouch for this. Maine is a great place to visit in the summer.

Wow, you said the magic word LOBSTER! I LOVE lobster! A few years back (or was it decades?) I was a lobsterman out of Newport, RI. Off-shore lobstering, 100 miles out to sea. We had over 700 pots. (oh, the adventures we had... big storms, Russian trawlers, giant lobsters, sharks, whales...) Oh, and did I mention I don't know how to swim? Yes, that's me. Best part was at the end of each day, that's when we could steam up some lobsters, open a beer, and kick back on the deck. Some of the best lobstermen I ever met were from Maine. I remember one character in particular, Benny Beale from Beale Island, Maine. And... Years ago a local radio station was running a promotion. You submitted your name/phone/etc., if they called, you had to know the secret word of the day. We had just returned from Disneyworld, got home late, but... I still set the clock and got up early to catch the word. A few minutes later (after I'd gone back to sleep), the phone rang.. it was the radio station. They asked if I knew the word, I did ... you guessed it, it was LOBSTER! Won a weeks vacation at a beautiful beach house on the Cape (with a private beach). See, you got me started. Starting car now, pointing it North... you better begin melting the butter:-) Regards, - Frank B.

Wow, great presentation. Think they could cook up this one? We brought this one home to a friend, the guy holding it is 6'2" On the way home from Newport, we brought it into a restaurant on a leash.

How long will a lobster live out of water? .... goes to the question of how long a leash you needed. I don't know much about lobsters, Frank, so I've got, right off hand, two questions, the first of which I already mentioned. Not the how long out of water one ... the "off hand" one. How much of a guys hand would come off if that monster latched onto it? 2nd, (or 3rd) is what multiple applies to this thing vs the standard issue creature? Last question, how does one bring a bathtub to a rolling boil? Oh I suppose you could tell us how much it weighed. Bob

We had a big holding tank on deck with a huge pump constantly circulating the water, otherwise they would use up all the air, and drown. The crusher claw (the big, fat claw) of this lobster could easily crack a 2x4. I have a scar where a 3lb lobster got a hold of me and wouldn't let go (forearm). Even after I broke off the claw, it was still clamped on my arm. I don't remember the exact weight, but I think it was around 25 lbs. My brother and I had consumed a couple of beers before we left the docks, so we thought it would be funny. Tied a rope around the lobster and brought him into a Howard Johnson's restaurant. Caused quite a stir. He kept scurrying across the floor (backwards of course). I don't think the restaurant manager was too thrilled, but the kids loved it:-) Here's a pretty good comparison...

It looks like an entry for the Guiness Book of World Records. (you and your friend are both cuties!)

When brother-in-law used to do a bit of work in Maine, he'd bring home a few lobsters from time-to-time as carry-on luggage.
Wonder if you can still do that post 9/11?

I can. A finer family and home you will never visit. And the lobster restaurant was quintessential. Right on the water amid the boats. Warm, comfy and unpretentious, just bring your own wine and a fingerbowl. Tom I respect and understand your choice to not meet people here in person. Being openly gay and outspoken puts me at risk. Yet I have met several people here in person, on all sides of the political spectrum. Overcoming my suspicion and fear has rewarded me with a many mind opening and beautiful experiences. Here, we are just opposing words. In person we have so much in common. Also, they have a killer piano. There is a beauty that comes with relaxing and looking past our differences and connecting in person with people from all sides of all the fences that we make up. Nuff said.

Seems they are quite resilient. And of course, at the local fish market, I see lobster, clams, crabs, etc on ice that are still alive. Seems very odd, from keeping saltwater aquariums I've learned keeping marine animals alive is very delicate, yet these morsels seem to survive brutal treatment.

On the subject of Lobsters, here is one about eating 38 of them, 9.76 lbs. Now that is a lot of lobster! I wonder of Sonya ever orders them if she had a choice http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/08/22/lobster.championship/index.html
