Dumb question from a city kid: Do the horses every accidently swallow a goldfish? Are the goldfish smart and/or quick enough to avoid horse muzzles? [/b]
I second that question.
And, don't the goldfish poop in the water?
How can that make it cleaner?
We need some science here.

I guess they act as filters and eat all the horse mouth gunk. Meanwhile the little fish poop is so tiny next to the huge tank that no one realises it's there - that or else the sides aren't made of clear glass, so it's just a con.
No, seriously, why don't they get eaten?

Horses won't eat fish without tarter sauce.

Nope, the horses don't swallow the fish. And, kenny - the water gets drunk and replenished. The amount of waste the fish create in a big stock tank is minimal, so it's not a problem.

Heck, it's not a problem in my little pond, either. And nobody drinks out of that except the neighbors cat.

Also, the goldfish eat mosquito larva. And with horses being susceptable to West Nile Virus, that's a good thing.

I bet those little fish need valium! I would!

So here I am, swimming around minding my business, eating mosquito larvae, and then, all of a sudden, a big hairy horse mouth plunges into my world and tries to eat me! eek

Jodi,
This reminds me of a funny horse story, and quite true, too. I remember someone (the city-slicker type like Kenny) wink asking me what I was going to do when I got home. I said I've got a mare to breed. Then "she" said, well, where are you going to do this? I said that I've got a sandy corral that I use. Then she asked how I knew that the mare was ready to breed. I said that she shows interest in the stallion, urinates, raises her tail and winks a lot. And then she said, in all seriousness, you means she actually winks and flutters her eyes? laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

Sincerely,
Eldon
