One Hundred Fifty grand piano stereo...
Lyngdorf hi-fi tech and Steinway acoustic know-how go into super expensive sound system.

World renowned piano maker Steinway & Sons has teamed up with, er, world renowned hi-fi creator Lyngdorf to create an ultra-expensive, ultra-exclusive and ultra-high quality digital audio system offering “an extraordinary experience for discerning clientele the world over.”

The Steinway & Sons Model-D Music System incorporates Lyngdorf’s “RoomPerfect” technology, which allows the stereo system to be configured for any room type and shape. This needs to be carried out by a specialist, and will be done when the system is installed at your home.

Less than 100 of the systems are likely to be made, and they will be priced at a tasty $150,000 (£75,000). A release date of “Fall 2007” has been given, and you can register your interest on the official website .

And no, it doesn't have a built-in iPod dock...

I guess it isn't really too much of a stretch, after all, Wurlitzer was arguably better known for its jukeboxes than its pianos.

The website is all fluff with no info. I wonder what exactly Steinway is bringing to the party here? Have they been involved in any other consumer electronics products (other than players) before? Acoustic modeling perhaps? Speaker design? Or is it that what you're really paying for is the name.

As a point of reference, you can purchase a "regular" system from Lyngdorf for about $35K, so this is a pretty massive step up.

Is this a trend? Bösendorfer has been offering "its own" stereo for some time now. see:

Mcintosh !

their stuff looks as nice and probrably built more robust, than the other two mentioned above.... eh?

Their name is probably the extent of their involvement, though I could be wrong.
