Everybody,
Thanks for your wonderful accounts of the party. It sounds like it was a great time. How late did it go? When did it start?

What a stupendous place, jon! It makes your Bosie look like a Steinway M. I especially love the bright blue staircase arching up amid all those clean white lines.. Looks like the Guggenheim. Say - what a great place for a gallery. You need a whole bunch of Kandinskis on the walls and some Brancusi and Henri Moore lounging here and there...And a great galumphing puppy slobbering on everything would surely do wonders for even your Feng Shui!
Remind me never to offer to host a Piano party! My dear little house could fit right in your living room, second story and all...And as for our Feng Shui. It's more like Feng Fooey. Once I get all the storage I'm hoping to add this summer, should be better.
Well, if I get to one, I'll at least be sure to bring baklava to ingratiate myself. My specialty. It looks like a real blast. I like the apparent informality of the dress too. You all look more like Californians except for more brunettes. If Ms. Miraculous plays as good as she looks...Wow! If not, I don't know how jon and Chris could concentrate. Congrats all, and thanks to jon and Rachel. I think you should make CD of every party, with a smattering of chitchat too.
Ariel
PS. Jeffrey, you don't look at all like the Samurai in your avatar! Somehow I felt let down :-).

Wish I could have been there. Maybe someday. What a beautiful piano and home Jon. Very classy. I am curious, I saw a staircase and heard about a skylight. How can this be? I think we are overdue for a So. California Piano Party. I think Joy and Rick may be considering one for the summer. Jet Blue has cheap tickets.

Horace - it wasn't all that long, maybe 2-7 or so. Most people left around 6. Ariel - rachel-nyc is shopping for art as we speak. She has a lot of her own stuff hanging upstairs including photogrpahs, paintings, and sketches (she has an MFA from the Museum school). And Kenny: Originally posted by kenny: I am curious, I saw a staircase and heard about a skylight. How can this be? [/b] THis picture gives a clue. Note the big cutout between the first and second floor. Directly above that is a huge (maybe 9' x 12') skylight. It really makes the place. But note also there's a second set of stairs directly above the first - that one goes to a door that opens out onto the roof deck.

Tom - I imagine your house is bigger.
This apartment is about 2100 sq ft, which is nothing in the burbs, but a decent size in the city.
The downstairs is essentially a open loft about 25' x 40' and the upstairs is chopped up into bedrooms plus the gallery space.
And its not like you weren't expressly invited!

there's no jet blue from montana. but maybe one of the airlines that does fly from here would start a subscription service? you know, buy ten flights to a nyc piano club party, get the 11th free? i still haven't posted my photos from grotriman's party, and y'all have already had ANOTHER one! it is an extraordinary group of people, one i wish i could be a part of on a regular basis. seeing these pictures, reading the accounts, and reminiscing about the last one in april are enough to get me thinking i have to make more trips to new york and time them appropriately!

I'm ready to post my pics. Can anybody direct me to an instruction link to do this? (I don't have web space and would need to upload to the forum, small images 640x480).
Thanks!

G - use this page: http://www.pianoworld.com/Uploads/fileuploader2.html I have the same camera as you and I shrunk mine to 30% of original length and width using MS paint, and they came out fine (size-wise, anyway).

Here CJQ plays Ravel's Concerto for Left Hand. Really. We in the audience hummed the orchestra part.

Here is a representative detail of the high standard of craftsmanship on the Bosie. Look at how they finish their bass strings!

Here is a picture of the inside of the Bosie. Notice how white those bridges and soundboard are! Whiter than a Westchester Country Club.... Why do you think those holes are there in the bass bridge? I think they are reducing mass to increase vibration in the soundboard. Does it decouple low frequencies though? Here is a picture of my Grotrian for comparison. Notice the use of laminated wood at the base of the bridge. Wood on the soundboard appears much darker.

Hi,
I believe the bridges are partially hollowed to allow for flexibility.

Holy crap! These pictures are amazing. I am so upset that I haven't logged onto this forum in like 2 months. What have I missed?!?!? So sad. Crying. Really. Anyway, I better not miss the next party. People! If I don't sign on, someone pvt. me with specifics because that at least gets to my email! I am so glad everyone had a great time. I am beyond amazed at this apartment, though. Where in NYC does this exist? I thought my apartment was big -- but jeez! -- no where near in comparison. I need your realtor!
Oh well. Next time. Keep me posted!

Hi Jon and Rachel Sorry I am a little late in adding my compliments and I am glad someone informed you I did get to play your beautiful Bosie. I can always play that Beethoven again at the next party, where ever it is. Just waiting to find out who is next. What a wonderful experience these parties are. Thank you so much for having us. You have a gorgeous apt.
