One more in the continuing series for NYC area folks. I think we've missed a few months since the last one at Bernard's.

I'm hosting a piano gathering at my place in Staten Island on Saturday, Dec. 3. Start time to be determined, but probably early to mid afternoon. I've got to start thinking about refreshments too.

I'm doing a home recording on Nov. 21, so I'm having a tuning and some damper work done on Nov. 18. So the piano should still be in decent shape. For those who don't know, this is a M&H CC, rebuilt, 1928.

Please PM me if interested. I would like to keep track of how many are coming. I can also send location and directions (public transit or driving).

What do you think is better? 1, 2 or 3 PM to start? People using the ferry from Manhattan should know that, on the weekend, the departures are hourly starting at 7 PM. And the subways get wacky on the weekend too, although many lines converge downtown near the ferry.

Looking forward to seeing some of you!

Playing piano at age 2, it was thought that I was some sort of idiot-savant. As it turns out, I'm just an idiot.

Hey, listen, you guys -- all I know is, when the tax bill comes, it says, "City of New York -- Dept. of Finance." laugh

So, Fingers -- are you coming?

waaaaaaaa! i wanna be there, too! frown frown frown i miss you guys!!!

i have a recital that day with my new teacher's other students at his house. no doubt i'm going to be humiliated by some 7 year old. it's one thing to be shown up by other adults, something entirely different to be upstaged by some grade schooler.

have fun. maybe i'll get to rejoin the nyc piano club in the spring. :sniff:

Pique',

Well, you could put glue on the piano bench to deflate the 7 y.o. whiz kid's ego when he stands up to take a bow.

Sorry you can't be here. We'll save a bagel for ya!

Hi, Folks:

I'll be there! Joe, any special requests on what I should bring?

I understand that there is a way to drive from PA/NJ to Staten Island without having to drive through Manhattan. I'm open to routes that you might suggest.

Thanks! I look forward to seeing everyone, again.

pique - good luck with your recital!!

Linda -- yay! Glad you can be here.

As for directions, stay tuned. I mean to compose a nice sheet of directions from all points via car, and public transit for the locals. As soon as I can get to it! I'll PM this to all those participating.

I'm sure I-78, I-80 both run through NJ and can get you here, skirting Manhattan. Halfway through NJ, I-287 is also an option.

And I need to determine a start time, as well.

Hey, Linda.

A slight inaccuracy. I-78 and I-80 WILL take you into Manhattan if you're not careful. You just have to exit before you get there!

I'll try to clarify all that after consulting a map.

We can't have a party without Bootsy.... I'll call the guy, he probably hasn't checked in to see the invitation.

Yes, indeed. I think CJQ was going to try to reach him, but please do. It was on my mind to invite him since I met him at your place.

All right, then!

Gathering will start at 2:00 PM and end (I imagine) somewhere around 6:00 to 7:00 PM.

I'll have some liquid refreshments (wine, beer, water, coffee, tea) and, let's see, right now a vegetarian pasta, lentil salad, nice cheese and excellent bread, green salad. If there's anything else you'd like to bring, feel free.

I AM E-MAILING OR PM'ING TRAVEL DIRECTIONS to everyone interested. If I don't have your e-mail address, I will paste it into a PM, otherwise it will be a Word attachment in an E-mail.

Looking forward!

Yes!! Let's rock!

I guess I'll be taking the Staten Island Ferry, n'est pas? There is no "short cut" from Brooklyn is there (sans voiture, of course)?

Bernard, sadly no more cars on the ferry. You could try a kayak! laugh

Oh, well, at least the subway fare is down to a dollar for this period (at least it was yesterday). A magnanimous gift from the benevolent MTA.
