Plans for a unique piano gathering on Old Cape Cod are currently underway. If you are interested in joining with other piano enthusiasts, please hold the date of October 21, Saturday,[/b] open on your event calendar. A tour will be hosted by three separate families who reside in the quaint town of Orleans. Each family is within walking distance of one another. A Mason & Hamlin grand resides at each of the homes for our listening and playing pleasure. The Cape Cod group of piano lovers takes great pleasure in welcoming guests into their homes and hopes you will join them in what should be a day of musical bliss. Please watch this thread for additional info as plans continue to unfold. How does the song go; … you’re sure to fall in love with Old Cape Cod!! (you bet!!) Sagamore Bridge/Cape Cod Canal

Looking forward to seeing some of the old faces...sorry...you know what I mean. As a matter of fact...you will be seeing some old faces. KathyK....you may have met John Williams and Ed Bonacci at a M&H tour. Ed's sister Roberta Lang has been to the M&H tour twice and to LeeB's party. John Williams wife Helga was at the M&H tour this past May. Marilyn and Keith Harrison will be new faces to everyone. All three homes have Mason&Hamlin grands. Roberta has a new "A". John Williams has a older "BB" and the Harrisons have a older Aeolian "A". All are wonderful folks and great hosts. It's a beautiful area and the homes are within walking distance of each other. A fun time for sure! Will be adding more info....stay tuned! Jeremy

KathyK thanks for pointing this out. Unfortunately, even though I'm closer, I won't be able to make Oct 21 as a friend from FL is coming up that weekend. Hope you all have a great time; it sounds very fun and I bet the area will be beautiful. I'll have to eventually make my way up to the area; now that I'm on the "right" coast Cathys

Kathy, maybe we could work something out. If you want to drive down the night before, you are welcome to stay here.... Has Bernard chimed in? This would be a nice trip for him (and us to enjoy his playing!

I've been enjoying checking-in myself on this thread and pleased to know another opportunity for us to gather is only a few weeks away. Those of us who have had prior experiences with piano gatherings don't need to have this thread further abound with how "wonderful" this gathering will be. We know. For those of you who have never taken the plunge and might be contemplating joining us, well, this is your opportunity to indulge yourself for a grand time. I had the most delightful opportunity to enjoy a pre-piano gathering event on Sunday and began to understand what has caused this event for taking so long to be presented!! You see, this is a close group of piano music lovers who reside within walking distance or a very short drive from one another. What appears to be happening is the group meets for, let's say, lunch and they have so much fun when they get-together they totally lose track of the purpose for their "planned" gathering. Well, a reoccurrence of nonproductive gathering plans came close to happening at our dinner party hosted by Roberta and her brother Ed as we were having just an enjoyable evening of piano playing featuring the talents of Jerry (A441), sumptuous food, & lively conversation. But this time the group stayed on track and most of the details were resolved. So, stay tuned and once I have a few further miscellaneous details confirmed with our Cape Cod hosts, I'll present a more appropriate post with some actual details. I took lots of pics but this one is especially for Lilylady as I thought of her when I saw these rosewood keys!! By all means, please don't forget about the brunch which Jerry and Linda Gloo are planning to host on Sunday morning in honor of their Steinway O's 100th anniversary! Thanks so much to all of you on the Cape for the pre-party invite and for making me feel so welcomed.

For those of you who are planning to stay overnight, here are some websites or phone numbers for local motels. Skaket Beach Motel in Orleans MA is a right turn off Exit 12 from Rt. 6 and your easiest access to the party. Telephone 1-800-835-0298. The Cove Motel in Orleans is on Rt. 28 across from the Christmas Tree Shop. www.thecoveorleans.com In Eastham on Rt. 6 there are 2 motels next to each other. They are only 3 min. from the Gloo's where the brunch is being held on Sun. morning. One is the Sheraton www.fourpoints.com and the other is Ocean Park Inn www.oceanparkinn-eastham.com Please let me know if you need further directions to any of these motels.

I'll be there! and bringing my cousin. We're going to take advantage of staying overnight so we can visit the area as well.
I saw those keys Terrytunes!!! ;-)
Have also tried to talk Steve Epstein (new AA) to join us with his wife. Poor thing, she already thinks that he has spent too much time searching for a piano, and now the parties start!
Did I miss the time?
Roberta

Hi BeeLady Glad to see that you will be joining us. Hope your family can come too. Your Steinway "A" is 105 years old this year I see. We will have to toast it! We still talk about the good time that we had at your home. Jeremy

Jeremy, I am working on the details for your Cape Escape. I don't think the family will attend but I hope to have Kathyk and Bernard in tow!
I have arranged an overnight place in Yarmouth but am still looking at other alternatives.
We so love the Eastham/Wellfleet area. It will be so nice to see it at the off season.
I can't wait to see all these M+H's that we have heard so much about!

The CAPE ESCAPE is getting more exciting...
We even might have a midnite party at the motel! Has anyone checked to see if they have a piano?
;-)
Hey KathyK, Bernard, Ax, and Septein, you aren't going to miss this are you?
Has anyone invited the Burgetts yet? or Bruce Clark or other MH family? I bet they would love to participate. And who was the member that hosted the Dr. Laul party? Has he been contacted?
Oooh...guess you can tell I am getting excited about this mini vacation!

A correction due to my error (first time ever). The Harrisons M&H "A" grand (1928) is a Boston built grand as is the Williams (1930). I was also "built" in 1930! Jeremy

But, Kenny, we want the real thing! And of course your pianos would be welcome too. ;-)
Actually, I am writing to find out what the food tables will be...
Are we doing hors d'oeuvres at each house?
Something specific needed?
Or something for the morning get together?
Speak up, hosts!

Plant gifts:
I will be bringing some bareroot plants to share.
I just dug many super strawberry plants that were invading some special daylily seedlings. Last year and this, I had humongous strawberries from this patch. I will be bringing a large trayful (50? plants) to share with those attending. If you are interested in more, please let me know. I am putting trays out front of my house for local garden enthusiasts this week and will offer them on Craigslist, so I need to know if you would like them as gifts.
As well, I will bring some landscape hybrid daylilies to share.
I will put the gifts outside my car when I arrive. If you wish some, please bring appropriate grocery plastic bags or pots to bring them to your home - and help yourselves.
A special plant will be given to each host as well as a thank you for opening your home to us.
The Lilylady

Lilylady... such a very generous offer!! I'm heading out to do some grocery shopping today so I can accumulate extra grocery bags!! Make sure you have Ed Bonacci provide you with a tour of his greenhouse! I am preparing a few lasagnas; and blueberry muffins for Sunday morning. I'll bring some extra wine/cheese/crackers for anyone wanting to continue the party at the Skaket. I might be exhausted by the evening but I'll most certainly be on an adrenaline high.

I've been saving my last tomatos etc to make a nice bowl of salsa to bring. Heaven knows I have all the herbs to add...and hot peppers! I'll make it up Thurs so everything will meld together. Yumm! I'll bring one big bag of tacos- maybe someone can bring a back up bag?
Still haven't heard if the food is spread to all 4 places or if we eat at one place Sat, and then of course the brunch on Sun.
Oh, also bringing some great summer phlox plants (pink, white, lav, etc) to share. Guess Thurs is going to be a busy day for LL! Leaving Fri morning to do some CC touring.
Hey KK, glad to hear that you are coming!
Man...just wait until the Skaket lodge has us boarding! I told Kenny we need his 9' Bluthner.

Here are a few food items that we Cape Codders are making for the Sat. party. I am bringing a couple pounds of shrimp cocktail. Helga Williams (hostess) is making a peach punch and deviled eggs. Marilyn Harrison (hostess) is doing either a soup or chili. There are 5-6 other couples that we know of from the Cape who will be coming and bringing food.
I will continue to update as I learn more info. If anyone knows for sure what they are bringing please post it. This will help the host families to plan.

Hi Lily Lady, On Sat. there will be food at all 3 of the host houses. We will initially drop off food at Roberta and Ed's house and then a bunch of us will distribute it to the other houses.
Jerry and I are hosting the brunch Sun. from 10-1 in North Eastham which is about 10 minutes away from your motel. We are all set with the food and drink for that event.

Frank... You probably can't see the streets through the pipe smoke. To get to Skaket Motel get off at exit 12, right on 6A immediate (almost) right in to Skaket driveway. Follow the black and white balloons if all else fails.

I've setup my reservation at the Skaket too. I'm coming down with Terry Tunes.
I'm bringing along some sweats for the parties - cookies and cakes.
I'm excited, I can't wait to party!

Anybody want a room-mate? My reservation with the Skaket Motel has been rejected. They're all booked up!
I spoke with Barbara down there, and she couldn't imagine what's goind on through the weekend! I told her it's a Piano World gathering, and she laughed. Sadly they don't have a piano though because we could've given them a time of their life!

Hi John,
Please come!
You can always tell them that the 'other guests' might not like all the 'noise' we might be making! ;-) Then they might have an open room.
Frank... BRING IT! There's always the lobby. And if not, there is always YOUR room!!!!
As long as YOU will entertain us!!! ;-)

I would have brought my 1919 M&H A too...bummer. I just know it would have fit in the back of my convert.

I've just arrived home from the event.
Happily full from fun, friends, food, and p(h)ianists fantastica!
Thank you to all who p(h)articipated.
Shall we start a new thread for pics and tales? Or shall we just continue here?
I'll be downloading the gazillion pics this evening as I relish every memory and will share ASAP!

Just arrived a little while ago myself, parked on the Mass Pike for over 45 minutes, not moving :-(
Incredible Weekend!
Gracious hosts, beautiful homes, wonderful pianos, and amazing food, music, and friends!
The Cape Cod crew has set a new standard.
4 pianos, 4 houses. Yikes! My poor chubby little fingers are tired from playing all those real pianos:-)
I vote we keep this thread going, so anyone stumbling across it gets the full story.
I'll have some pictures to put up later too. LilyLady, please tell Dennis thank you for being the "official" photographer.
More later...

Ed Bonacci was kind enough to give me a CD with some pictures he took while we were at his house (house #3 on the tour), Thanks Ed. Our favorite room (hey, you get hungry when you play)... KathyK at the M&H A (2002) The Dining Room (Ed Bonacci & Roberta Lang's house) The Music Room (With Dennis [LilyLady's Friend], LilyLady, Bernard, A441/Jeremy Gloo, and (ok, help me out with the names here) Doggie (I've forgotten the dogs names, but they were wonderful) You gotta love that face... Ok Ed, where's the pictures of the greenhouse? I hope somebody got pictures of it, it was amazing. And... tell me somebody took pictures of the deck and the view? There were plenty of cameras (even though I forgot mine, it was sitting next to my list of things to bring, forgot the list too). I'm sure there will be lots more pictures of this beautiful home, and the other 3 beautiful homes, pianos, and spreads. Ok, next pictures??

Got home about 2 hours ago after a detour to take Bernard and Kathy to Ptown. What a great weekend.... Lilylady, I vote for a NEW thread and posted in the Piano Forum. I think sometimes the newcomers miss out on what fun we have here!

What a great time! I'm still buzzing! I got back to TerryTune's house around 4:00, and stopped in to play her Ivers & Pond. I couldn't get enough piano in me. I really want to thank our gracious hosts and hostess' for making this the best time I've had in a very long time! I can't remember when the last time I had this much fun. John

Some pics from the Gloo's Steinway Birthday Party! Sunday Brunch. Cake was chocolate and white for the piano theme! Jeremy plays and we sang Happy Birthday to the Steinway O turning 100. Are we piano nuts or what? ;-) Learning the history and the original receipt Roberta studies the restoration pics - it was found painted white. Even the keys! kk plays piano, lloyd plays 'axtremus' (looking at the piano's underside! John Citron explains his music note pad to Ed Terrytunes, Jeremy, Bernard, Beelady Linda Gloo prepares Sunday Brunch which was yummy!

Sat we had a progressive dinner while we tried out the Mason and Hamlins at each. Here is the Harrison house and older A. It sounded beautiful! A delight to play. Terrytunes hanging balloons and PW sign for our walk in the woods from one house to another. Arriving. The piano is to the right of the door. kk plays while Steve and Terry Tunes and John Citron look on. Jeanne plays her own compositions Jeanne's notations

This was quite seriously the best piano party ever. It was really and truly sensory overload - visual(beautiful Cape Cod homes and vistas), olfactory (4 mouth watering spreads of food) and of course aural with non-stop beautiful piano music. And the comradery is has no parallel - it really doesn't - old PW friends who become dearer with each meeting and the steady streaming in of new ones. I got in quite late last night and have work beckoning (unfair!), so it will be awhile before I get to see what pics I have in my camera to add here. Terry, Ms. coordinator extraordinaire, you are so good! And I very pleased that you had the foresight to get those wonderful shots of each of our hosts by their pianos - what lovely, lovely people, all. I'm hoping some of them will be enticed to join PW. And of course we have Jeremy and Linda Gloo to heartily thank for conceiving the whole thing and talking their friends into opening their homes and pianos to us. They all say they're up for doing it again. So whether you're from the east coast or not, take my word, the trek would be well worth your while. More later.

Well, this morning I am still floating on air after a sensational weekend with friends, old and new, beautiful views, delicious and abundant food, wonderful music. Thanks to our hosts, The Lang-Bonacci's, The Harrison's, The Williams for opening their homes to us. A big thank you to Jerry and Linda Gloo who are responsible for this extraordinary gathering and the care and feeding of all those beautiful pianos. Terry went above and beyond to organize and coordinate this event. She has been responsible for many of our gatherings here in New England and has provided us with unique venues. We are all so blessed. I can't wait for the next gathering!

Got some more pics uploaded! We met at Roberta and Ed's to park. A walk through the woods brought us to the Harrison house (Marilyn and Keith) where we had Hors d'oeuvres and homemade squash soup and enjoyed our first Mason Hamlin A. See Above. Another short stroll through the woods brought us to the Williams' home for more goodies and the BB. Piano teacher of Marilyn and Roberta arrives while Roberta plays with the most elegant tall poodles. Older sister poodle actually strutted. PW founder, Frank and Bernard Bernard plays so beautifully, with soul. He listens closely as well. Jeremy hams it up with a Victor Borge imitation Terrytunes plays! Yeah Terry!!! And she has an infectious smile Couldn't keep my fingers off these pianos either! Thought I would have a heart attack before finishing. Whoops, where's Franks rock n roll pic? Seems I need to start another post. 8 pic limit.

Hard to leave Helga and John's beautiful home and piano as well...but back into the woods we went to arrive at Roberta and Ed's place for dinner and more playing! Roberta has a newer MH A with those to die for rosewood black keys that I drool over! Cape Cod's can be very deceiving. Typical basic beginning with picket fence gets add ons, and ons, and here, even a state of the art two story greenhouse for Ed's orchids! Roberta's music room is left of the front door with Ed's greenhouse in the back Cape Cod Friend, Jim entertained us. Jim was a professional acoustic bass player as well. Ed showing a Gloo son and friend, the greenhouse full of orchids. Above the 2 story greenhouse was a peak/copula and these amazing staghorn ferns. KathyK blew our minds with her Rachmaninoff (help me out here Kathy) rendition. Standing ovation!

Wow! What a whoppin' wonderful weekend! What parties! I hardly know where to begin. First of all, many thanks to BeeLady for putting me up Friday night and for her patience when I didn't arrive on the train I said I would because the NYC->Boston bus crawled through Connecticut for reasons I couldn't figure out, and I couldn't phone her because I don't use a cell phone (I think I'll go and get one of those pre-paid programs now). Thanks for the drive to Provincetown too--what a special place. It is definitely at the top of my list now. Can't get the image of the 74 (or was it 64?) year old chanteuse out of my mind. Thanks to Axtremus for picking me up at the train station when I did finally arrive. It was really nice to see you again Ax, ditto the twins and your lovely wife. Thank you Keith and Marilyn Harrison, John and Helga Williams, Roberta Bonacci and Ed Bonacci, and Jeremy and Linda Gloo for opening your beautiful homes and so graciously hosting these parties. I still think I must have been dreaming it all. My heartfelt thanks to all of you for the warm and inviting welcome. The food was superb; sooo delicious. Kudos to all the chefs extraordinaire: 5 stars all around!! (Kerri, we've got to get your idea of a PW cookbook rolling. I want some of those recipes! ) Lilylady, as I said, the salsa you made is the best I've ever had. Marilyn's squash soup! Terrytune's spinach lasagna and blueberry muffins! Linda's crab quiche! Gastronomic heaven. (Pardon me a moment--I need to go raid the fridge. ). Thank you Ed Bonacci for opening your greenhouse to us. I am speechless. I missed playing the piano at the Harrison's but the others I played were all very fine instruments indeed. Jeremy Gloo's Steinway is a special instrument and I'm thrilled to have heard it and played it on it's 100th Birthday. To my ears the tone is as perfect a piano tone as one could wish for. Totally gorgeous. Jeremy, I dare say your piano ranks 1 or 2 as the best sounding piano I've ever heard, and at the moment I'm inclined to say #1. A round of applause to all the pianists who played this weekend. Awesome--and I mean everyone. Jeanne, you should publish your music. Period. I can't believe I spent the weekend on Cape Cod attending 4 piano parties! Wake me up, I must be dreaming. P.S. Thanks to everyone who took pictures too! (Thanks for reminding me of Jeremy's Horowitz impersonation, Lilylady. Hilarious! What fun.)

What a terrific weekend! Thank You Keith & Marilyn, John and Helga, Roberta and Ed, Jeremy and Linda for hosting this event. It was nice meeting you and having the opportunity to hob knob with fellow PianoWorld members. Thanks to Terrytunes and everyone who had some hand in making this possible. Thank you, Frank, for PianoWorld! Having the opportunity to play the pianos was priceless, and traveling from one house (and piano) to the next was a terrific way to hear the differences and similarities in the pianos. The music.... OH, YES, THE MUSIC!!! Hearing a variety of music from improvisation to cocktail lounge type music (fake book playing? I don't know really what to call it) to rock and roll (courtesy of Frank ) , ragtime (Terrytunes!) and classical, what a wonderful thing that was! The People, the Pianos, the Food, the Music... !!! Jeanne W P.S. Thanks, Bernard, for your comments about my music.

This post is dedicated to Frank Baxter. Three years ago, I received an invitation from Frank to join an online piano forum. The special person who had brought the piano into my life departed soon after my arrival to this forum, while a host of new and very special friends entered to bring me hope and encouragement to further enjoy the piano in her absence. I am so humbled to have found ALL of you!! Thank you, Frank.

All eyes are glued on Frank as he does his impressario act. And then he elucidates on his technique Frank and Beelady And finally a few shots from Bernard's, Beelady's and my foray to Provincetown after the last revelry on Sunday. I post these as a further enticement to those of you who aren't from New England and might need a little extra incentive to get you out to the next Cape Cod party. It would be well worth making a several day vacation out of it. It had been 14 years since I had visited Cape Cod, and I'm telling you, I've got a major itch to return well before another 14 years passes. There's so much to see and do. And the natural beauty is just overwhelming. This was at the end of the pier. I was intrigued by the photo images of the women, who I'm guessing are Portugese immigrants. Docked fishing boats A schooner that was at port having just made the run from the Great Lakes through the St. Lawrence Seaway. I was seriously considering hanging up my job for awhile and signing on as a crew member - contingent on having a piano aboard, of course.

Maybe not so far by water? ;-)
Hey, if I might travel down your way for a piano get together, you might travel up here?
Nice place to show Piano Son?
Piano Wife?
I'll show a few more pics soon of Cape Cod that might entice you.

Looks like a wonderful time was had by all! I am sorry I could not make it, but just a bad weekend for me. Lovely homes, lovely pianos, and I am sure some amazing music.
