....on Saturday, June 17th. Be there or be square! :p I need to start getting RSVPs ASAP and also need to know how many people will need a hotel room. I'm trying for a good group rate. Thanks, Cathy

Looks good for me so far! That is, if you still have my piano there.

mark, You're never going to believe this, but it's still here. Do you think I should put it in the front window or something? No, that wouldn't be right....it might fade the beautiful wood. Oh well, someday someone will discover it's true worth and just snap it up in a heartbeat. I guess you'd better act fast if you still want it!

I figure in a few more years, you'll be begging me to take it off your hands--maybe you'll even throw in one of those Estonias for free as an incentive. markb--Always thinking.

I guess you can count me (and probably at least one parent) in as well. Hopefully we'll be able to make it!

Hi, Cathy --
I'll plan on it, though this could be a busy time at work. Even if I'm not prepped to play, I'm pretty reliable when it comes to providing and consuming food. Please keep us posted as to times, what to bring, etc.

Hi, I'm new to the forums and also new to the piano (7 months, age 23)
I'm not sure what these piano parties are about but I live in Reston.
Will people be playing? or buying? or both I guess? hehe.

I also have never been to a piano party, but I live in Rockville (near the Shady Grove Metro Stop) and am interested to join in. How do these things work?

Here's how it works.... We piano geeks get together to eat, drink and be merry. Some people play, some don't. Usually I fix the "major" food and everybody else brings beer, wine, soda, whatever, or a dessert. Some people are coming from very far away (Chicago, Boston , North Carolina, Michigan, etc.), so I don't want them to worry about food. Everyone needs to RSVP ASAP so that I can plan accordingly. There are 2 Hotels within a block of my store -- but you need to book early, I've only reserved 10 rooms so far. Call me (1800-440-HARL or 703-739-2220) if you want info. These things are always loads of fun! All the best, Cathy

Linda: I got an e-mail from markb. He begged and pleaded with me to come to the next DC-area piano party. He just wants me there so that he'll sound pretty good in comparison! Oh puhleeeze! Despite the fact that our duetting just emphasized how you're in the major leagues and I'm waiting to be called up to play "A" ball, I'd like to see you there anyway!

Could you PM or or post the address of wherever this party is? I'll possibly attend, depending on how prepared I am to play. :p

Silent Omen, try Cathy\'s website for directions. Come regardless of whether or not you want to play anything. There's no external pressure to play, but once you see all of those nifty pianos, you're likely to want to at least dink around on them. You're probably about 30 minutes from Cathy's.

Yup, no pressure to perform. But usually everyone at least plays a few notes. Especially after a couple of drinks.

Careful Mark,.... Don't give him too much information. He probably wants to snatch it away from you. I still have your piano safely tucked behind closed doors. (waiting for you to save up enough $$ to buy it) Faithfully yours, Cathy

But NO TOUCHING THE PIANO.

Tell you what--if you get there early enough, I give you permission to play the piano. Cathy promised to have it tuned and regulated for me, so if it doesn't sound or feel right to you, please rectify any problems. I trust you.
Call me a diva, but I just can't tolerate playing an imperfectly-maintained piano.

Catlady, what time does the event begin?
I'm taking the Chinatown bus this time ($35 round trip!!) and want to plan correctly.
(Successfully made my reservation at the Sheraton already.)

Well, actually what I said was something like "the store closes at 6, so it will be after that". Last time we started around 6:30. I need a little time to finish with customers (hopefully) and start setting out the food and drinks. We'll probably eat dinner around 7-ish.
BTW, anyone who still needs a reservation at the Sheraton should call 703-836-4700 and ask for Daniel Cheng. He is handling our "special rate" rooms personally. (just tell him Harl Pianos)

Did you say St. ASAPH? Are you sure PianoSuperstore doesn't have an outlet there? Am I going to see one of those "German" Ellenburgs in the lobby? One of the outlets for Ellenburg on the web was Asaph Music :p

Hey Cathy,
Anybody interested in hearing a piano-French Horn piece at the party? :p
We ain't perfect yet, but Anthony and I are working up part of Saint Saens' "Concert Piece" in a Horn/Piano duo.

David I'll reply to that, Sir. I am interested in any instrument that anyone can play at this party. Even if someone brings their guitar - that would be cool, too. I am soooooo ultra looking forward to playing on some of that sweet pianos (but I'm not soooo great.... still new). but, what a treat it will be. And my husband, well, he'll have fun, too! So, Anthony, yup, please have your son play, definitely! Peace, Sharon

Now I have less than a week to learn all my jazz chord progressions, open voicings, and figure out what a "shell" is before Spin Doctor yells at me.
But really, glad to hear you're coming!
