Can the D.C. area handle another PW party?

I'm ready,.....how about you guys? Right now I'm making plans to go to Germany for about 10 days to visit a few factories, so I'd like to get some idea of interest ASAP. (BEFORE I buy non-refundable plane tickets!) This time we have to remember to take the piano pileup picture or nobody will believe we really had a party. :p Call me at the store if you have any questions. Thanks, Cathy 703-739-2220 or 1800-440-HARL

Cathy, you just pick a date and demand that everyone within a 100-mile or so radius attend.
I *guess* we can do it your way and ask when it's convenient for people.

Originally posted by markb: Yes, yes, and yes.[/b] Ditto, ditto, and ditto! Originally posted by Catlady: Any vote on WHEN??[/b] Well, we could do a Halloween-themed party on 10/29 or 10/30. My playing is always good for a fright! Actually, I've been working a simple little Gr. 1 piece called "Spooks" - my 3-year old nephew gets a kick out of it. I'd prefer that we avoid 10/14 through 10/23 as I'll be at piano camp on these dates. Thanks, Cathy!

Hi, Linda! If your playing is frightful, then I might as well just hang it up. Or whatever you say when you quit playing the piano. (Close the fallboard?)
I'm thinking that Halloween weekend includes lots of parties, which may make it hard for those of us with little kids. But it's not a bad suggestion, and if that's the date that Cathy decides on, I surely will try to attend. I *think* that my only definite no-go weekend is Nov. 4 through 6, but I'll have to synch my schedule with the rest of my family's and see what's available.

Oct 14 or 15 would work great for me. I'm already planning on being in D.C. that weekend!
Beethoven anyone?

Even if the PW party is held on a different weekend, I hope you'll come in and visit.

Yay!!! I'm lovin' that idea!
As it stands as of right now, we are looking for a early/mid-October close on our house. We'll hopefully move in soon after that. I can't believe that it's possible you all could see my piano at Cathy's AGAIN!!!!
Oh, and the weekend of 10/15-16 would be perfect because my fall break starts on the 14th.
But probably sometime in Nov. would be best for me. Before the snows, before the holiday traffic, but after my life settles down some.

Any weekend but Oct. 1st works for me. I couldn't attend the first gathering, so really hope to make this one.

Gee, I even might be able to make it down from Boston! Just waiting to hear that the pianos I am interested arrive there. Wanting to hear a 48 in C Bech next to a 52 inch and a Grotrian upright as well. Sooner than later, I hope! It would be fun to be part of the party too.

Looks like I'll be leaving town on the evening of the 15th. I'm not sure yet, so I'll keep you guys posted. Perhaps I could make arrangements to go to D.C. twice in one month, if the 15th doesn't work out.
I'll let you know.

I could possibly do the 12th (have to make it a day trip). I'm playing a recital on the 17th, so you guys could get a preview! Plus, it would be a great way to prepare myself.

Yup, that would definitely prepare you! As a matter of fact, that's just after and/or just before a recital for me as well. Rachmaninoff or Busoni perhaps??

I'd love to hear your instructor's piece! I hope you decide to play it whenever we decide on a date.

Cathy, my piano is still there, yes? You know which piano--the one so special that it had its own room in order not to be tainted by, or associated with, those so-called pianos in the showroom.

All I know is traffic going north on I-95 on a Saturday afternoon is a female dog. Although this is going to be a bit after tourist season. But still. Maybe noonish? When did we have it before? I just remember being there until the following morning. Literally.

We need to have it after store hours -- like last time. I'm open from 10-6, so it'll be after that. Okey-dokey?

I'm planning on getting there around noon so I can warm up while entertaining customers. The soothing piano music provides a pleasant background for piano shoppers and boosts sales. I'm sure that Cathy won't mind.

Maybe markb would be willing to let go of his "special" piano.

Hey,
If you are all giving 'the piano of choice' as a Birthday Presents, I'll change my birth records to Nov 12th!!!
While I'm changing them, can I change my 'older year' to something like 1977? LOL!

Oh No....
On checking things that should have been listed on my calender, I now see that I am lecturing in Minn on this weekend. (Garden Design)
UGHHHHHH....
Now, not only will I be missing the party, but I also have to return my birthday to its original middle aged lady stature!

FYI,
I am planning to be there on the 12th. However, my pregnant wife is scheduled for a C-section on the 14th. Assuming everything is normal, I'll be there.
BTW...it's another boy!

*sigh* Cross your fingers and hope that it'll be in a couple of weeks! Trust me, you'll know when I take delivery of it! lol
But I think we were trying to set a date for Nov. 3. So...far...away...

I can vouch for the high quality of Terrytunes' name tags. Anyone who goes to Cathy's party and doesn't have one of these tags is a piano dweeb.

After 6:00. If I recall correctly, the last party there didn't really get hopping until after midnight and didn't stop until the cops broke it up around 5:00 a.m. Here's Cathy's website for location: www.harlpianos.com

Hi guys - I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night. I'll do the food. Just bring beer, wine, etc. All the best, Cathy

Cathy,
Things don't look like they're working out for this weekend. The family just has too many commitments. Aaaaargh!
Next time!
Best,
David F

Having not heard from Cathy for a while, I was afraid I'd again drive down to Arlington...find myself alone...and cold...with my nose pressed up against the window of a darkened piano store...the window sign that reads "Go away markb!"
Of course, not like that's ever happened to me before...

Thanks very much Cathy, for offering to arrange food. I would like to suggest that everyone pitch in say $5 or $10. There's no reason why Cathy should be burdened.
Also, I'll make something -- a cheesecake or "Viennese brownies".
See you all this evening!
Regards, Peter

I want to thank Cathy for hosting another successful piano party. It was great seeing people that I met last time and meeting new people. The quality of musicianship (except for mine, of course), was inspiring.

[/b] Ah, markb, you were very inspiring - and you would have brought the house down had it not been for your incompetent duet partner. You really need to be more selective in who you choose to work with! Seriously, it was a great[/b] party with wonderful, talented friends and supporters. Once again, Cathy provided us with a room chock full of beautifully prepared instruments. My favorites are still the AF 190 (polished pyramid mahogany) and the similarly sized Grotrian (satin mahogany). They are both a pleasure to play! Thanks, again, to our beautiful hostess, Cathy, and to all the party-goers for bringing an evening of warmth, richness, and texture into my life! . . . Linda

But ya gotta admit, markb, a 9' Schimmel looks pretty cool with a human pyramid atop!
