I've not been much for hosting parties, but I have a new Yamaha C2 and would like to host a piano party...at first with close friends, then maybe something more open. If there's already a posting on this, lead me there...I couldn't find one.

Could somone explain the logistics in implementing a successful, fun party for both the guests and the host? Should it be a free for all piano jam? Should there be scheduled concert-y time? Just scratching for ideas. Should we hire a performer for a small concert?

Thanks for any ideas!

Hi Kreerk,

These posts should give you some idea of how forums parties come together.

The primary ingredients are:

~ People who share a love of piano music (regardless of their ability to play)
~ A piano (duh), hopefully in tune and good working condition
~ Some food and drink (with participants typically contributing by bringing some food and/or drink with them)
~ A relaxed, let's have fun atmosphere.
~ We usually encourage everyone to take a turn at playing, regardless of whether they just started learning, or just released their 5th concert CD
~ Pictures, lots of pictures. If a grand piano is involved, pictures should include a group shot, with as many people under/over/around the piano as possible.

Most of the parties are very informal, although some have included guest concert artists and printed programs. I think people are more likely to relax and enjoy themselves if it's low-key.

Here are some previous parties, and suggestions:

And here is a new one being organized on Cape Cod for this Oct.
