I live in England and have a very old Steinway Grand - around 1864/5. Looking at the Whippens they seem to be quite different to modern ones - they have pivoting flanges that clip onto the keys. Although the piano plays very well indeed some of the jacks are becoming a bit fragile and I think an action rebuild will be required...it certainly looks like it needs new hammers and rebushing. I guess Steinway may just want to replace the action with a more modern one but does anyone know if the original type whippens are likely to be available? Are there any other special considerations I should take into account on such an old Steinway action?
All thoughts gratefully received.
