I would like to sell a piano and have no idea how much to ask for it. I don't have funds to pay someone to appraise it. It is also not located where I live. I am anticipating that when I notify the person whose house it is safely residing at of my desire to sell, they may wish to purchase it. So, when I let them know that I wish to sell and arrange for prospecitve buyers to visit, I would like to have some kind of idea of a price. This may not be a fair question to ask anyone, but I am hopeful that I can recieve some kind of guidance. .

Hello,

I would suggest that you post this at the Piano Forum. You will likely get more replies.

Also, describe the piano. (Age, Brand, Use, Type, Tunings, etc.) Someone who knows about that type of piano may be able to tell you what they go for. ;\)

It may not even be your piano to sell any more.
I believe if you leave an item at someone's
house, after a certain length of time, say
6 mos. to 3 yrs., depending on the local
law, it then technically belongs to the
other person.

Ha!

I hope anyway, that your friends don't mind that you still consider it yours.

If they ask to buy it, I would sell it for what they offer. After all, they've probably grown quite attached to it, and may not be able to aford the 'going rate' for the kind of piano it is. I would feel sorry if a child with a growing musical talent got his piano yanked out from under him.
