HELP![/b]

We now have over 1/4 Million posts and growing every day. It's getting very difficult to search out answers in old threads.

I don't want to start deleting threads because they provide a wonderful history of the forums.
But... We really need to move more of the useful threads to either the FAQ areas, or to the archives.

PLEASE[/b]
If you find a thread particularly useful, or interesting, please post a note in this area, with a link to the thread. I will look at it and decide if it's a candidate for the FAQ or archive it.

Like What?[/b]
It could be a good answer to a question, or just an interesting thread about soundboards, scale design, practicing technique, one composer vs another, where to find something (like sheet music, books, manuals,) or even something non-musical but helpful.

Too Many Posts![/b]
There are just too many posts for me to keep up.
I need your help (yes, that means you). Please take a few minutes to think about (and dig up) particularly helpful, useful, or interesting threads... and let us know.

Thanks!

frank,
i could not agree with you more that ALL previous posts here are an integral part of pianoworld's history, and need to be accessable. they are our collective memory. i myself would be inconsolable if i didn't have access to them whenever i wished.

at the same time, it is clear that the present site is overburdened. load times get increasingly slower. error messages that pages can't load at all are ever more frequent, sometimes every other page.

i've had it in the back of my mind as a "to do" that i'd like to go back through the pianoworld collective memory and find those posts and threads that were most helpful and save them in a way that makes accessing them convenient. but, that, as you know, is a daunting task.

here's a suggestion. why not create a separate site just for the archives? make them fully searchable, just as they are now, or even introduce a boolean search function to make them even more searchable. (maybe that's what you already have, i don't know, but....)

this site, the one we are on now, is for posts going back, say, 120 days. prior to that, one simply goes to the new archive site, pianoworldarchives.com, our own forum library!

what do you think?

i'd hate to see any of the threads lost to anthropologists, archaeologists, sociologists, novelists, screenwriters, and other researchers, simply because nobody thought of them as being relevant at the time. ;\)

Hi Frank,

Just do a search for any thread where member #2848 posted, and it's bound to be worth saving.

Seriously, here is one for the FAQs:

I'll try to look for others.

Greetings, Frank!

You're scaring me. Are you thinking of deleting the immortal Coffee Room threads too? The great brownie recipes, the Wars of Nerves, gryphon's hilarious photoshopping, the handy-dandy purchasing advice - and so much more?

What IS archiving anyway? Can you get at things without microfiche? (Well, whatever the equivalent is for Computer memory storage).

Ariel

Hi Ariel,

No, I'm not planning on deleting anything.
Just moving them to the Archive forums to free up some room in the regular forums.

It's getting very difficult to search for any useful information these days because the forums are so big.

That's why I'd like to pull out the better (helpful) threads first and move them to the FAQ's before I move some of the others to the archive forums.

I plan to keep all the threads, they are a great history of the piano industry and a slice of humanity:-)

Frank,

This is a good one: "How long does voicing last?".

regarding the Nigerian scam deal. My name is Christina and I tried to access your "piano search" feature and the response was something like, "we know about your 'dirty tricks,' we are on to you and so do all the other advertisers". I have researched this item on your forum and have discovered the name "chris sill" is associated with this scam. Unfortunately, I feel I have been wrongly targeted as this person because of the similarity of my name. I don't know if this person stole my name/e-mail/identity or I am just being coincidently denied because of my name. I would like my name/e-mail/membership identity to be cleared up so I can have access again.
Can anyone help???
