I played my Clair de Lune Sunday.....It was truly breathtaking!!!!I got so many great comments from people after the recital...And this girl came up to me and asked me if i would be her duet partner in this sacred piano festival...Does anyone have any idea what thats is..
But im not 100% sure it was called sacred but i believe so....and i have been playing almost 4 years and she is going on to major in music this year...so it was truly an honor..
I will be going to piano tomorrow so i will find out what it is called if im not already correct.

I went to piano today and now now what it is....It is at a Baptist church in Loma Linda, California...Its actually called Sacred Music Piano Festival...Yes it is mostly hymns but also there is contemporary...I am playing a duet and a solo piece, there is many different things you can play duet ,solo or whatever....for my duet im playing Christ the Lord is risen today, and for my solo im playing a contemporary either Angnus Dei or Shout to the Lord...There is judges and you win medals and things...It cost my mother $20 per event and im playing 2 so it was $40...there is many different age groups and it should be great fun!!!!

You might enjoy this - i made an arrangement for an upcoming Flute and Piano Jazz CD, combining "Claire de lune" with "Moon River" - you can hear it on my MySpace profile here:

It may not be the first thing that gets played when you open the page (i set the tracks to shuffle randomly), but it's pretty easy to pick out - let me know what you think! Hope you enjoy it!
All the best,
Hugh Sung

I'm so glad you liked that arrangement! I remember knocking my head trying to come up with an accompaniment line for "Moon River" that didn't sound too soupy, too cheesy...very difficult, given the inherent simplicity of the line and harmony...not much to work with...then, driving home from my studio one night, i think there was a full moon out...i kept thinking, "moon...moon...lunar...lune..." Then it hit me, "Claire de lune"!! I ran through both pieces simultaneously in my head, and was amazed to hear that they actually fit together almost perfectly! I had to tweak a few things in the Debussy here and there, but much of it was surprisingly intact...
I played it for Jeff Khaner, and he burst out laughing! He thought it was too wild to fit two well-known pieces like that together, and i went back to the drawing board and actually wrote a second version that sounded somewhat impressionistic, but more or less original...
When it came time to record the CD, we recorded my 2nd version first...then, just for kicks, i suggested just trying the Debussy version.
Well...i think i heard the engineer's jaw drop on the other end of the mike! He really, really liked it...and judging from the number of hits it seems to be getting, looks like most other folks do too! Isn't that a funny story?
Anyway, glad you liked it - i'll post a little message as soon as the Jazz album gets released.
Take care!
Hugh Sung
