i was wondering what you guys would suggest charging for lessons. i am an undergrad piano pedagogy student, but with not very much teaching experience. i already have one sudent, and i only charge him $10/hr. i thought that would be fair since i have little experience.

Depends upon where you live and what other teachers in your area with similar training and experience charge. Saying that, $10/hour seems REALLY low, regardless of where you live. $5.00 for a 30 minute lesson? No way.

Beginning teachers in Southern California start at around $12-15 for a 30 minute lesson.

i do realise that, but he is also a friend, and i think that got in the way of charging more....when i get more students, i will change that! i was thinking $25/hour, but i will ask other students what they charge. thanks!

My friend has a Masters Degree in Music, but it was in organ, not piano. He started giving piano lessons recently to beginning children and charges $60 an hour. He researched what the standard rates were. This is in the Boston area.

I live in Rocky Mountains...A swanky resort town. I charge $60/hour, $30 for 1/2 hour. I have busy studio downtown, this increases my overhead. Last time I taught out of my home I was charging $22/$44 for half or full hours. I am currently as expensive or more expensive than all others in my area.
