Hi
Do any of you teach piano via the interent, using web cams?
If so, how does it work out for you?
Thanks for any input

There's another thread on this forum "Want to Expand Your Business". There's an article on this guy:
www.learningguitarnow.com

I emailed him to find out more about his Skype lessons. I think it's pretty interesting, but he says that there's not much business from that yet. It does seem to be the way things are going, however.

There would be a bit of difficulty for piano, in that the computer & webcam would have to be in the same room as the piano. For me at my home or studio, that's not a problem. But it might be for students. And then they'd have to position it just right so that you could observe their hands while also being able to see their entire body to really be able to teach effectively.

All in all, it's a very interesting prospect, don't you think?

I guess I'm in the process of experimenting with a friend in Vancouver who wants to learn. Initially I said, "no, not going to work," but I'm trying to glean art lessons from him in the same way, so we're giving it a try. I expect progress to be slow and I wouldn't be surprised if he develops bad habits, but having some teacher is better than having no teacher, right?

If at all serious and planning to invest money, find a teacher in person. There's just too much that can't be conveyed in both directions without exceptional technology.
