This custom search works much better than the built in one and allows searching older posts.

My friend in Japan runs her own piano school and would like some suggestions to name it. She currently uses her initials as a name but wants to change it. She would like something soft, sophisticated and contemporary. Her first idea was "fairy music" but she did't like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does she have a nick name? My name is Jenny but I didn't want my name to be directly involved, so I use my nick name, Min, hence Min's Music. What's hers? Does it roll off the tongue nicely? Perhaps she could name it after her favourite composer. "The Romantic Chopin", "Piano van Ludwig", "Lessons for Liszt" "Czerny and Company," or something practical, "The School of Modern Piano," or the town she lives in school of Modern piano. Or her musical philosohpy "Education for Life", "Nurtured Talent - A school for piano students"
Whatever you do, DONT let her use Fairy Music - I'm sorry, but this is cringe worthy.

Just a suggestion - unless she plans on never teaching intermediate or advanced students, find a name that isn't so cutesy. Things like "Tinke Tune High" and "Fairy music" might be okay for 6-year-olds, but not adolescents.
I'd just go with her name.
"The Kobayashi Piano School" or "Piano-Takahashi"
or maybe "ItoPlay" or "Performance Saito"

It is well known that the Japanese often apply ridiculous (to our ears) English names to things, because an English name is considered cool, regardless of the actual meaning. So, with that in mind, let's dismiss a few absurd suggestions immediately: - Lucky Piano Farm
- Heaven for Keys
- Beauty Music Fun Lovely
- Kiss from Piano Music
- Music for Tender Youth
- Star Moon Piano Love
- School for Scandal (Oops, that's taken!)
- Joyful School Music
- Pink Piano Master School
I can list lots more bad suggestions.

What's in a school name? In my case, it's everything! It's who I am and what I do. If you don't plan on being any good, then you may want to find some creative moniker to hind behind. Otherwise, if a growing reputation is more to your liking, shout your name from the rooftops - proudly tell the world exactly who you are and what you do! BTW - I'm Russ and I teach life skills through music.

Maybe she doesn't want to place emphasis on herself but on her studio - that is, what the studio is producing - quality students. It's not just the teacher that does all the work. Students and parents do play a role - as does any method books you may use, literature that's studied, etc. Even with a name "The School That Sucks!" can be VERY successful, producing brilliant pianists!
