I screwed up and put this same topic in the piano forum!

A parent of a young new student today asked me what CDs he could buy of piano music that would be good for his child to listen to. I've never really been asked that before! I did a little search on amazon.com and found this that looked good:

http://www.amazon.com/For-Children/dp/B0007PHASS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1217533231&sr=1-3

It would be good to come up with a listing of CDs that parents could use to start building a good musical library. What are some things you would like to see on the list?

Stanny - There is a series under the title "Classical Kids" that is very popular. They come as a CD or DVD. My kids and I love the "Beethoven Lives Upstairs" dvd.

Saint-Seans' Carnival of the Animals. Kids love this. So do I.

How old is this student? I started lessons when I was 9 and my mom bought a couple of classical music cd's with various (mostly well known)works on them. They weren't geared toward children or anything. I LOVED those cd's- they provided me with my first official exposure to Chopin... I was never the same (in a good way)!

Apropos of Carnival of the Animals, which I also love, a note:
If any readers are in the Lynchburg, VA, area, on Labor Day weekend, Saturday afternoon Aug 30, Gustavo Ramero will be performing Carnival of the Animals in a benefit concert for the Lynchburg Academy of Fine Arts.

BTW, I have no affiliation with the academy, but my daughter will be playing the flute part, and I'm really looking forward to it; I thought nearby carnival of the animals lovers might be interested...
