Does anybody have any suggestions on how to hear the inversion of major and minor four note chords? I either sing the four notes melodically and attempt to hear the intervals fast enough, or sing the four note chord in several inversions as I would play a broken chord pattern on the piano, and hope to stop at the root position.

It would be much better to play them on the piano than to sing them.

(I almost suspect you are pulling our leg here.)

I recommend Satie's Ogive #1 or Debussy's "The Sunken Cathedral."
