Hi all,
Short version: I'm looking for a piano teacher in the Reading, Berkshire area to take me through my DipABRSM. Responses here or via PM would be most welcome.
Long version: Thought I might consult the collective wisdom of the UK-based lot here in my search for a teacher in Reading, Berks.
I've been playing about 20 years (with something of a break in the middle during University), passed AB Grade 8 about 10 years ago (and hopefully progressed a little since then). However, for the past few years I haven't had a teacher, and don't feel I'm really getting anywhere, and I'm sure my technique's getting sloppier. I'd like to do my DipABRSM, as I've already got quite a few of the pieces under my fingers.
I went into my local music shop to ask if they could recommend a teacher, and they handed me a huge binder of adverts (without saying anything else - nothing like good customer service, is there?). I jotted down the numbers of a couple of them, but the response from all was the same: they baulked when I mentioned my standard and my goals (guess this ties into the threads about unqualified teachers).
Anyway:
- I'm based in Reading, but would travel for lessons (though if it was particularly far out, I'd prefer to do so fortnightly).
- The lessons would have to be in the evenings, probably later than 7pm to ensure it wouldn't clash with the occasional long day at work.
- I don't have an acoustic piano (I've got a Roland RD700SX and a Clavinova - I live in a shared, rented house, and an acoustic piano simply isn't a possibility at the moment - I know this is an issue for some teachers)
and if anyone could recommend a decent teacher, I'd be eternally grateful.
Thanks,
Tom
