Hi, I am looking for Macintosh friendly programs that I can use to familiarize myself with the keyboard, notes etc. like a flashcard except on the computer. Hand held flashcards would be OK, but I would think a computer program could handle a lot more information. Thanks for you input in advance. Racer

Music Ace and Music Ace 2 are good, but generally for kids. If you don't mind that, it would be worth picking up.

Also, you can go to www.musictheory.net and for free you can learn all sorts of stuff about reading notes, etc.

Not that I'm suggesting these programs for your particular needs, but they are Mac-friendly. I bought Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory and Interactive Musician (kind of like an ear-training program) for my kids to use. I've done some work with the programs too, and I can attest that they're okay for adults too.

Side note: my rationale was that these are kids in a video-game era, and while I know that music theory from a book isn't going to excite them much, I thought maybe interactive programs on a Mac might help get them excited about it. That's the theory at least...in practice, they're just not that excited about music theory and ear training.

I found both programs at sweetwater.com at a fairly good price. I think it was around $100 total for both of them.
