Posted this thread in AB forum with little response. Perhaps it belongs here.

We all know it's great when you find a good teacher and you are progressing.

We also know each teacher addresses different aspects. For example, my teacher took lessons for 6 years with a very successful concert pianist who learned in Russia and came here in 1918 -- the experiences and tips have been invaluable.

Question #1: When do you outgrow a teacher?

If you are happy and progressing with the teacher, is there still a reason to change? And if you are progressing, wouldn't there still be other dimensions you could learn from other teachers?

Question # 2: After how many years or levels does it make sense to work with another teacher?

These questions assume there is no problem with the teacher or student working together.

Thanks,

Hi,
You have outgrown them when you play better than they do and know what they know plus much more. If you need more stimulation, go find it-it will keep you growing.
