There are a few posts going around about students being assigned music that is uninspiring. I just wanted to list a few things I work from with my teacher that might be enjoyed by other adult students. Of course everyone's taste is quite different but I've yet to be bored or uninspired with these.

Michael Aaron Lesson books [/b](I can only refer to books 3 and 4 as we stopped using method books a couple of years ago). I'm sure you've heard of these... They contain original music as well as studies composed by Michael Aaron. I always felt like a real pianist when learning these.

Micro Jazz - Christopher Norton[/b] - there are tons of these fun pieces at varying levels. They are short and often challenging but fun to play, great teachers of rhythm, and a nice change-up from classical repertoire.

200 Piccoli Canoni Op. 14 Konrad M. Kunz[/b]
These 200 progressive pieces are five finger only and true brain exercises. Again fun to play and easily learned in one week. It's nice to have something - even if it's only 4-8 measures long - accomplished for your next lesson. Little bits of 'Bach.'

Martha Mier[/b] - I have the 4 Romantic Impression books and each piece is a great exercise in expression. Books 1-3 (for me) contain pieces I can learn on my own and play once or twice for my teacher for polishing tips.

From another adult relearner, here are some ones that I really enjoy. (Plus they are in all 24 keys, so working through these books are good for you! ;\) )

Piano Miniatures by Victor Labenske

Preludes by Robert Vandall

Lyric Preludes in Romantic Style by William Gillock

I can't imagine why I am working through 3 books in all keys at the same time. I started with the Preludes after hearing someone post a recording from the book. My teacher mentioned the Gillock book and we just started working through them. Finally, I picked up Labenske's book more for sight reading and it turns out to be pieces that are a bit harder than sight reading for me, but still easy and very fun to play.

From another adult learner (started 20 months back)

Celebration Series Repertoire and the corresponding Etudes book. These are graded books published by FJH. http://www.frederickharrismusic.com/fhmcUS/main.jsp

Jazz, Rags and Blues by Martha Mier. There are 4 levels. I am working on the first one.

Students - that a good list. You know, perhaps, that most of the better teachers have these in their teaching libraries. Perhaps this would be a good question for potential students to ask teachers, "May I see your teaching library?"
