Tadashi / Atlas Grand Piano Quality and Opinions

I have been offered a Tadashi Grand Piano (6' 2")that is about 22 years old. (1986)
What is the quality of "Tadashi" brand? I heard that they may go under the name Atlas and went out of business. I really like Yamaha and Kawai Grands, what do you think would be a reasonable price for this grand? It is in mint condition.
Also, any and all opinions are appreciated. Thanks!

Are you sure curry? It sounds and plays exactly like a Yamaha. The build quality is good aswell, and the action is very responsive, with a deep, growling bass.

The secretary at our school has a Tadashi grand and I played it at the Christmas Party this last year. They had bought it back in the '80s in Houston. It played okay and reminded me of Japanese pianos of the 70's-80's.

I do indeed like the bass alot. Not as much as a Yamaha bass, but still.
The treble is what I really like because it is mellowed yet still singing. It does not pierce like a Yamaha treble would.
What do you guys think would be a fair price for a 6' 2" grand?
Thanks for all your help!

I had sold a few "Tadashi" /Atlas pianos in the 80's. Tadashi was a Canadian company. Previously, they brought out the 'Stegler' (Samick) piano and lost that when Samick began to distribute their own. The Japanese Tadashi's were made by Atlas and in my opinion, the highest quality Japanese piano in its day. It used wooden action rails and was built more expensively and traditionally then its counterparts. Have it checked out by a tech, and pay 40% less than if it said 'Yamaha' on it if it's ok. Later, when the yen skyrocketed, that started to use the Tadashi name on Indonesian and other lower quality pianos, so make sure it's a Japanese Tadashi.

I have been offered the piano at $5600 incl. delivery and free tuning. It has also been regulated and comes with a 2yr parts and labor warranty.
The Yamaha C3, which is the comparable 6' 1" Yamaha grand to this, has been offered at $12,500, out of my price range.
Do you think its a good deal? I may be able to bargain with the dealer.

Alright
Would $4800 be a killer deal? What would you guys consider a steal of a deal for this piano to be? I thought $5600 would be a steal of a deal considering it is in completely new condition with no defects or dings or marks, and it comes with delivery, free tuning, and bench.

Mr. Fiore (AKA "curry")with all due respect, obviously doesn't know what the definition of "junk" is when talking about pianos. I had the TADASHI Piano Dealership in Washington State in 1986, I also had an EVERETT Piano Dealership (by YAMAHA)and a successful piano rebuilding and refinishing shop ... so I definately have a little different perspective on the subject of what is "junk" and what isn't. My personal piano is a Steinway Model O for "professional reasons" only, but I'd recommend a 6' 2" TADASHI over the Steinway any day ... and at any price.
In the late 1980's, TADASHI Pianos were by far the best off-shore pianos availble in the USA. TADASHI'S parent company, Brother Industries, Ltd., of Nagoya, Japan, a multi-national /mulit-billion dollar conglomerate, started in 1908 and is better known for manufacturing some of Japan's finest (and most expensive) sewing machines, office equipment and CNC machine tools. However, TADASHI Pianos attention to quality was nothing less than astounding. If you owned a YAMAHA or KAWAI piano in Japan in the late 80's .... so what. If you owned a TADASHI Piano .... you had "arrived".
I regret that I didn't see this post earlier .... I hope you bought that TADASHI piano right away, beacuse if you passed on it in favor of a YAMAHA ... then you've been duped.

Hello I finally bought the piano tadashi model T-169 with serial number 3060019 and I would like to know the year of manufacture. As I read these pianos have a very high quality and were built in Japan, but mine has a small metal tag piano which appears below: Made in Korea! How is this?. I appreciate that someone could help me. I can post pictures if you need it... Thanks

Thanks for all the help, and any more opinions are greatly needed This was Juan's final post on this particular thread - dated August 2007. On another thread in September 2007 - he mentioned that he ultimately paid $3,200 for the Tadashi. Apparently he got his killer deal. We've not heard from him since.

thank you very much for your help. this site and I had read but little help. On my piano has that label Made in Korea under, in a bar structure, does that mean you can be manufactured by Samick or Young Chang?, Since these are the only brands that manufacture in that country. I do not understand that its soundboard say made in japan and elsewhere made in korea.

I do not understand that its soundboard say made in japan and elsewhere made in korea. Take another look at one of the posts from the thread I referred you to. " Tadashi's were made in Japan in the 1970's, and first sold in the US as Atlas, but they ran into trademark problems, so they sold them as Tadashi (they remained Atlas in Japan, which created the interesting case where the piano sold under a Japanese name in the US and a US name in Japan). In the 80's the company tried to stay competitive/relevant by relocating production to Taiwan, and then Canada. It didn't work out, and they went under in '87. An importer revived the name with a half Japanese, half Korean piano-that didn't work either." Also - Larry Fine's Piano Book from 2001 contains the following statement: Tadashi "went out of business in 1987 Several years later, the Tadashi name was revived by an American importer who, using the Tadashi name and piano design under license, had the piano made partly in Japan (but not by Atlas) and partly in Korea. The idea didn't exactly catch on, and the name is not presently being used." This most likely explains the origin of YOUR piano - and the reason for the "Made in Korea" label on it.
