Hi everyone?
My son is 11 years old boy, now he is playing impromptu fantasy. does his teacher or me push him too hard? his sightreading is pretty good, his finger is long and fast, but he can not bring much music as I expected. what should I expect 11 year old boy do? is that good to play some difficult songs for him if he could really handle them after practising?
HOw could he can improve himself for play more musically? one more question, just curious, why his teacher asked him to stop one song for two weeks, then will start again and prepare for audition. I guess that it is for refreshment, any other reason for that?
Really appreciate your help!!!
Bryan

Bryan:

I assume you're talking about the Chopin Fantasie Impromptu in C# minor. It's very difficult, especially for an 11 year old. Be patient, let him practise as much as he needs, and just be supportive and encouraging. He will progress at his own rate and not come to resent either you or his teacher.

Hi Bliu, welcome! Please don't post the same question in multiple forums.

Thank you for your reply! Sorry for double post it. I thought that I posted it in a wrong section, so I reposted it in another section. I did not mean to do it.
Thanks!

That is about when I learned fantasie-impromptu. It was my first big piece. I think the advice of getting away from it for a bit is good advice. It is one of those pieces that can easily fray in places if you don't continually pay attention to every place. It's easy to go a bit on autopilot for a while without realizing it, only to then realize later you've reinforced some bad habits. Good idea to keep it fresh.

I love how the placid theme of the middle rises up out of the chaos of the last page... keeping the crescendo of the last third in mind during the middle section helps with the foreshadowing.

don't worry about doing a double post, people do it all the time in the Coffee room and Pianist corner.

Bliu, how long has your son been playing? Fantasie-impromtu is, for most 11-yearolds, probably a bit too difficult. Especially since you have different rhythms in the right and left hand... Perhaps it would be better to start with a simplier piece? Why not play some of the waltzes, or nocturnes, which aren't as technically demanding?
