We had a topic going on PWF about “listening” and I though this might be helpful to adult beginners, pianists, performers, and teachers, all.

http://www.mtna.org/Publications/AmericanMusicTeacher/ArticleoftheYear/tabid/303/Default.aspx

It comes from MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) www.mtna.org
Found in “Publications”: American Music Teacher: Article of the Year (There is a long list on the right column of many previous years tributes.)

Please read the red column that appears when you enter the site to the end, and then go to the right column to read or download the 2006 Article of the Year.

Happy reading! I thought it was a great article!

Great article, Betty. Thanks.

I did catch one technical error which is truly important. The author stated that the pianist only controls the attack. That's not entirely true. The pianist also controls the dampers, and that control, both with fingers and foot, greatly affects the sound.
