Hello to all in the NYC area. I'm 57 y.o., and in love with the sound of jazz piano standards. I love Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Thelonius Monk, etc.

I'm practicing the scales and the major and minor chord inversions, on my own. I've played guitar for 50 years, was first trombone in HS and College orchestras, and basically play guitar on piano (chords LH, melody RH). I dabbled in Sudnow technique. There's a lot there, and I hope to use bits of it someday, but I apologise to Mr Sudnow that I'm bored with the sound. I'd love to know what to practice to ascend to playing jazz standards. I need a good, adaptable teacher in New York City. Anybody out there?

Hi,
I work with a lot of musicians with similar background as yours. I have two guitar players in my program with good skills and a bass player. All of them are learning jazz piano through my book series. You may find it useful as well. Take a look and check the material out www.planetmullins.com/book.htm and email me at the website if you have any questions.

Thanks Rob.

I looked at your site and was about to jump on your kind suggestion...then I realized I've quickly acquired over 30 books by all different authors, all different methods and techniques, in my zeal to learn piano. Personally I can't see me getting the job done this way. I really am going to look for a teacher. If I don't get anywhere with a teacher, I'll revisit your offer.

All best
