Roduf, as English isn't your first language, searching Google may not be very helpful, but there are resources available. Here's a short extract I found (I also found a doctoral dissertation which discusses' Brhams and other late romantic music in great depth). Happy hunting. In 1880, Johannes Brahms composed the Rhapsody in G Minor, Op. 79 No. 2. A rhapsody typically involves a narrative element and is often of heroic nature. Brahms wrote several rhapsodies for piano, and the one in G Minor is one of his most famous. This work is written in sonata-allegro form. Brahms was one of the greatest masters of sonata-allegro form in the nineteenth century. Brahms was also a great master of Romantic harmony. Op. 79 No. 2 embodies the best of Brahms' ability to balance an emotional harmonic and melodic language within the boundaries of Classical form.[/b] I

I put in a lot of work on this but had to drop it in favor of other pieces--too difficult to get up to fluency. I can't give a harmonic analysis, only a general performance-oriented one.
What attracted me to it in the first place was its seemingly un-Brahmsian charater. This seems more lyrical and melodic throughout than your typical turgid Brahms composition-- a truly rhapsodic work (when you think of Brahms, probably the last word that would come to mind is "rhapsodic"). I have Glenn Gould's recording, and there too some uncharacteristic elements: very untypical repertoire for Gould, and untypically lyrical playing for him. (Note: this is apparently heavily edited electronically, by Gould himself, so it's technically perfect playing and maybe not what he was actually capable of.)
As far as the structural aspects are concerned, there are many sections of a repetitive nature, in variation. But it is all handled well, and moreover, the piece moves brisky from start to finish--again, uncharaceristic with Brahms--so the listener doesn't get bored.
Technically, this is difficult, like all pieces with a strong melodic line. You can't b.s. your way through this like you can with some of the more nebulous-sounding Brahms works.
