Ok I responded to a freecycle ad over here looking for somebody who could give a keyboard away and as she asked twice I agreed to let her come over to my house and practice on my synth and master keyboard rig and I might throw in a little tuition for free as I was thinking of teaching and she seemed like a good guinea pig to try out on thinking that there is no way she would say yes well she did and I now have till friday to get prepped.

She has little or no experience and I would say she can read music a little as she is taking singing lessons but has no piano experience at all so where do I start. She is into pop music and classical and as my classical playing is limited (I was taught jazz and a little funk) I figure to major on the pop side of thing's.

Can anybody recommend me a good book to get her to bring with her and also Any idea of lesson planning would be good ie should I go straight in with scales and a set regime or be a little looser?

Any help would be appreciated

Tristian

YES. Structure is important. You will need to use scales to explain all the keyboard harmony that you will use to teach pop.

Be deliberate...set goals(by yourself) first.

Think of the basics needed, and concentrate on what you do know well. If you're not a classical pianist, then don't teach that. Scales and basic chords are going to be very important.
