Good morning fellow teachers

Notice that there are lots of rapid scales in Chopin's works. I just can't get the technique rite. I tend to slow down and is unable to play 1 whole bar of rapid scales. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Yours truly

I had to do this with Beethoven's Pathetique (m. 10):

Try playing a chromatic passage in different rhythms. Try swinging a Chopin scale! Also try the opposite of a swing pattern.

Put a fermata on certain notes of the passage.
stop every three notes, or every 8 notes, etc.

Play slowly and speed up gradually.

Good luck! Any questions?

Dan's the man. Good advice.

Also, try speeding it up with the rhtyhm, i.e.:

1. First practice the scale in quarter notes.
2. Second practice the scale in eighth notes
3. Third practice the scale in triplets
4. Fourth practice the scale in sixteenths

(So you first play it with each note getting one full beat, then you play it with two notes per beat, then you play it with three notes per beat, then you play it with four notes per beat.)

You might try switching the beating during the scale, i.e. play for a while with quarter notes and then without stopping switch to triplets and then after a while switch (without stopping) to eigths, etc.
