i am considering getting a book to learn how to play piano, which book out of the two is better? does anyone have any experience with them?

I will also take suggestions for other books. as for my level, i am a complete newbie, never played an musical instrument in my life.

There is such a wide variety of styles in piano as well as goals that adults have. What exactly would you like to be able to play? I'm not familiar with either book you've mentioned, but I'd definitely steer clear of any books that make promises like learning to play piano in 10 easy lessons. Piano is hard, and if they claim you'll be playing in 10 lessons, chances are it won't be thorough nor give you the tools you need to play whatever you'd like.

It seems that you've followed the same method I would use in selection, which is to go to amazon.com and read the reviews. If you are a complete beginner having a CD in the book helps a lot because you can then hear what the song is supposed to sound like which is pretty essential if you don't have a piano teacher.
