Hello all,

Summer is practically over! I can't believe it! I just spent hours and hours at my local music store rummaging through enless stacks of books for my students this fall. Here is my question....has anyone used the series "Succeeding With The Masters" for Baroque and Classical music introduction with a student? If so, what are your thoughts on the editorial notes and the musical helps sections? I know these books are quite new on the market (2004) and it takes time for a book to make it's place, or lack thereof. Just looking for some opinions.

I bought the level 5 book but the student I had in mind for it may not be returning this fall. I liked the idea of a cd included. I've not gotten a chance to read the notes with it. Another thing I liked is that I believe the series goes to higher levels beyond the traditional "level 6" that most methods go. I think it appears pretty good but as far as notes and explanation that go along with certain historic time periods, I've seen some other books lately I think that had more info. but I can't recall the names. It seems they are coming out with more new books all the time. It's about time but then it makes it harder to choose when there's several good ones.

Thanks Sarabande! I know, there are SO MANY new books out there...it seems like there are more and more each year. But I like to look at them because sometimes there are new approaches that seem more modern and up to date with the interests of students these days
