I just started looking up some prices of private tuition for the piano but the thought occurred to me, I remember sometime ago someone mentioning 'group lessons' and that they are naturally much cheaper. Has anyone had any experience with group lessons and how effective they are etc? I'm very much a self taught beginner, I'm up to Book 2 of Alfreds Adult Piano Course but not a total beginner - well sort of. I was just wondering whether it's worth the saving to have group lessons. Any thoughts on the subject?

taffy, group lessons for adults are generally geared to the lowest common denominator. They may be less expensive on a per lesson basis, but I have serious doubts if they are truly any bargain.

When we do group lessons for kids, we generally strive to match the 2 or 3 students very closely, so that the lessons are truly cost effective for parents.

Classroom keyboard at a nearby university or college may be more of what you are looking for. There, the instructor is teaching to a curriculum and probably keeps a tight schedule. Students have to keep up. But these classes may not be much less expensive than a private instructor.
