I just came across the idea why don't members who are taught by russians share their teachers' information, of coure, under permission. My impression of russian teachers from reading all the threads is they have tougher and more systematic training, but seems members here are pretty satisfied with this method. So could you guys please share information of your russian teachers or if you like, just list your names, and then we can PM each other. I'm just out of energy to search a traditional russian teacher here. Thanks. MC

I am a Russian piano teacher and I will try to explain you the difference between Russian school of music and others. Our government pays big portion monetarily contributes to music education. It means, we have many music schools all over the country. In order to get a place there, you ought to 'survive' a competition with other kids. Learning starts when kids 6-7 years old. It takes 5-7 years to graduate music school. Every week students have at least: 2 x 45 minutes private piano instructions 1,5 academic hour of Solfeggio ( they sing by sight reading, write music dictations, have ear training exercises) 1,5 academic hour of theory 1 hour of music history 1 hour of choir
You have to graduate music school with honor and get through another competition to enter to music secondary school. In secondary schools students have strict music training (harmony, music analyses and other subjects on the top of piano and theory) for 4 more years.
If students graduated secondary school with honor and pass the competition to get to conservatory to study music 5 more years and to become a master.
This is the main reason why Russians are outstanding musicians. You have to be really special to learn nothing after 16 years of strict music training.
