My student is having a great deal of difficulty playing this piece through because of the left hand broken octave type figure. He gets incredibly tired doing this part. What suggestions do you have for the student that would enable him to complete the piece without losing his left hand!

Thank you

Moshe,
when I played it as a kid, I got really really tired in my left hand too. I would simply advice your student to practice it slowly, in a tempo where he can feel relaxed in his left hand and not get tired. Later, he can increase speed, just as long as he doesn't get tired. He doesn't even have to practice this beethoven sonata, he could just play the octave part over and over again in a slow tempo. I'm sure he will make progress in a couple of weeks.

Practice the left hand in triplets and in quick bursts: one long note, three very fast notes, one long note, etc...

very good advice, Kreisler, why didn't I ever think of that?
