Looking for (free or cheap) software/website where I can download and print note recognition/music basics flashcards. Any recommendations.

When I first learned my note recognition there were some places I found em after a gruelling search, but they were lame cause the farthest the notes wandered of the staff was one ledger line. certainly not enough. I made my own. I also made chord ones too with all inversions. Definately a great way to learn/teach instantaneous note recognition. I remember I carried mine everywhere I went. Kind of a sick obsession music is with me.

Flashcards are pretty cheap. You can buy them for about 4 dollars and save yourself the work. For me, it's never worth it to "save money" and then spend an hour making something.

You'll want to get cards that have the entire staff as well as at least 3 ledger lines above, below, and inbetween.

Good luck, I hope you find what you're looking for!

try NoteID from KBAsoftware. It's free and does the job nicely. Look for it under "freeware" at http://www.musicstudy.com/.

I was looking for the same thing about a year ago, but I couldn't find anything. So, I found a website where I could copy all of the notes on the staff and print them out. Then I pasted them onto index cards that I had cut in half and wrote the name of the note on the back. You could try that, or let me know if you want me to email all of the notes on the staff to you (I have them in a Word document).

By the way flashcards make an excellent way to pass the time while riding an exercise bike or jogging moderately on the treadmill. Get your exercise and music theory all at once!

Agree that spending $5-7 dollars on flashcards is the best way to go. I did it for my two young sons... the shape and durabilty of the cards made it easy. Remember you'll want to go 3 octaves and have the name of the note on the back. Also I bought another cheap tool, which is a note that moves up and down the base and treble cleffs. You move it around and ask the "student" to name the note...very effective. The boys learned their notes very quickly.
