Hello, I know you already have a youtube thread going, but I noticed that it was mostly full of people's favourite songs played there.
Well I'd like to start this thread asking for all of you piano players who have a youtube account for it, to post it here. I love watching piano on youtube, and it would be even nicer if I could subscribe to some people who come from this reputable forum.
Thank you for your time.

Anders,
Interesting that you mention the Toccata. He really liked that piece the moment he heard it, but it seemed a bit outside of his reasonable ability at that point (last year). But I imagine he will be able to handle it sometime in the next few years. A piece like that needs an advanced technique so that it doesn't sound like a mere banging noise

Hi, Larisa. Welcome to PianoWorld. I do believe I was in attendance in Duluth for your performance. And shot a few videos there myself that I haven't gotten a chance to process and upload yet. Soon. I promise. Howard Ragtime Videos Other Videos

Piano*Dad,
Really enjoyed your son's playing.
I have to ask, just how large are his hands? It looks like he can span a sixteenth!
I am SO jealous!

LM [/b] I did a little sifting through my recording backlog last night and here's the mp3 soundtrack of the video you posted earlier... the resolution is a little higher than is possible on YouTube: MP3: Larisa Migachyov plays her "Gitche Gumee Rag" The piano btw is a Steinway and the piece was composed by Larisa for the festival sponsored by the Lake Superior Ragtime Society... the title being drawn from the original Native American Ojibwe name for the lake. I'm so glad that between Law School, her concert schedule, and practicing her piano playing that Larisa finds ways to fill all the rest of her left over time. Beats working a spare job as a roadie... JonBrom,
So, you noticed those big claws of his. His fingers are quite long, which allows him to use the whole key very easily. But his reach isn't extraordinary ........ yet. He can grab a tenth, which a lot of people can do. I suspect his reach (width) will expand as he grows a little, and he'll likely have an easy eleventh. Whether or not he gets to a twelfth is anybody's guess.

I think that your son may have a chance since he can handle the jumps in Rachmaninoff's G-minor prelude with ease. The Prokofiev-Toccata do also have a lot of repeated figurations that is even possible to handle even in the early stage of learning. I also liked his Montages and Capsules(?).

Alkey,
I really liked the middle section. You drew out the beauty of that part with a nice relaxed technique. Congratulations on a fine performance. You also had a very receptive audience!
BTW, what did you think of the piano? Over my speakers it sounded really bright as glass, but that could have been the recording medium instead of the piano.
Anders,
Yes, the Montagues & Capulets is a fun piece, as are most of the other nine in the Romeo and Juliet suite. Lugansky has put out a very nice CD of the whole suite.
When Piano*Son was eleven he heard a young twelve year old performer on From the Top (a radio show over here) play it. My son decided that if this kid could do it at age twelve, so could he! And he did. It was wonderful motivation.

thanks for the comments really appreciate them. To answer Piano dad's question; the piano was wonderful (Steinway), deep rich bass with responsive touch. I don't recall it being a very bright piano. Maybe the sound i produced during the 2nd section was a bright glassy sound. ^^; don't know.
