Hello, I know you already have a youtube thread going, but I noticed that it was mostly full of people's favourite songs played there.
Well I'd like to start this thread asking for all of you piano players who have a youtube account for it, to post it here. I love watching piano on youtube, and it would be even nicer if I could subscribe to some people who come from this reputable forum.
Thank you for your time.

Anders,
Interesting that you mention the Toccata. He really liked that piece the moment he heard it, but it seemed a bit outside of his reasonable ability at that point (last year). But I imagine he will be able to handle it sometime in the next few years. A piece like that needs an advanced technique so that it doesn't sound like a mere banging noise

Piano*Dad,
Really enjoyed your son's playing.
I have to ask, just how large are his hands? It looks like he can span a sixteenth!

LM [/b] I did a little sifting through my recording backlog last night and here's the mp3 soundtrack of the video you posted earlier... the resolution is a little higher than is possible on YouTube: MP3: Larisa Migachyov plays her "Gitche Gumee Rag" The piano btw is a Steinway and the piece was composed by Larisa for the festival sponsored by the Lake Superior Ragtime Society... the title being drawn from the original Native American Ojibwe name for the lake. I'm so glad that between Law School, her concert schedule, and practicing her piano playing that Larisa finds ways to fill all the rest of her left over time. Beats working a spare job as a roadie... JonBrom,
So, you noticed those big claws of his. His fingers are quite long, which allows him to use the whole key very easily. But his reach isn't extraordinary ........ yet. He can grab a tenth, which a lot of people can do. I suspect his reach (width) will expand as he grows a little, and he'll likely have an easy eleventh. Whether or not he gets to a twelfth is anybody's guess.

I think that your son may have a chance since he can handle the jumps in Rachmaninoff's G-minor prelude with ease. The Prokofiev-Toccata do also have a lot of repeated figurations that is even possible to handle even in the early stage of learning. I also liked his Montages and Capsules(?).

Alkey,
I really liked the middle section. You drew out the beauty of that part with a nice relaxed technique. Congratulations on a fine performance. You also had a very receptive audience!
BTW, what did you think of the piano? Over my speakers it sounded really bright as glass, but that could have been the recording medium instead of the piano.
Anders,
Yes, the Montagues & Capulets is a fun piece, as are most of the other nine in the Romeo and Juliet suite. Lugansky has put out a very nice CD of the whole suite.
When Piano*Son was eleven he heard a young twelve year old performer on From the Top (a radio show over here) play it. My son decided that if this kid could do it at age twelve, so could he! And he did. It was wonderful motivation.

thanks for the comments really appreciate them. To answer Piano dad's question; the piano was wonderful (Steinway), deep rich bass with responsive touch. I don't recall it being a very bright piano. Maybe the sound i produced during the 2nd section was a bright glassy sound. ^^; don't know.

I think this is my most significant recording to date. After getting hold of the full score which showed the harp parts I decided to record part of Mozart's Flute & Harp Concerto 2nd movement as I was listening to it constantly. I thought it would take ages but I did it in two evenings. I've not played it for months and have completely forgotten it. I planned to write a longer version but like most things....I didn't! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkchxIUUPJE

apple* -- How fun! My kids tend to gravitate to my studio when they hear the piano (unfortunately, this is sometimes the case while I am trying to teach). Mine are only 4 and 1, though. My cats tend to congregate here as well, LOL. No dogs at this time. Thank you for sharing your first video with us! Your piano is beautiful, and I loved the Bach. How long have you been working on this?

This has been a great place for me to come and enjoy all the fine contributions of PW members on youtube especially during my lunch break at work since I'm only working with dial-up connection at home. During our recent May Grand Events gathering in MA, I attended the Saturday tour of the Frederick Historical Collection. Even though I only had my digital camera, I decided to take a short clip of Pat Frederick playing a piece by Chopin on the Pleyel. I try to promote their collection and study center as much as possible and with Pat's permission I present this short clip on youtube; recently posted in the AFB forum in the Totally Devoted to Chopin thread. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yjDJJQpSmQ

Hey Can anyone tell me the best way to record sound for my youtube performances? Bearing in mind capturing video is fine with my canon camera, its just the built in mic is not great and I want better sound quality perhaps from a seperate high end mic? I heard this zoom H2 is good. I am in desperate need to figure this out, please help. The link below is my current recorded videos on youtube anyway.

I use a Logitec Fusion webcam that allows the PC to act as the mic which eliminates all background noise. I still get confused when hooking it all up though! Just a stones throw in Peterborough. I love going to the dogs.

Youtube currently isn't be best place to upload anything musical. They've got these horrid compressors and stuff in place that are driving musicians nuts. Take a look at this video here: Mangled Audio This guy has a slight workaround bit it isn't perfect and may sound bad to some (as well as the technique having undesirable effects on the high quality version). Also, if Youtube fixes the issue in the future it may have other side effects. He's got a link of a better version using the bit of an audio hack which you can get to via the related videos.

Yea Youtube compression is horrible but if it's a bad video it's not that bad Sloppy recording of Chopin's 1st nocturne and a sloppy recording of Beethoven's 6th Sonata. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meUx3BSCV0o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DciOWaEJ0xE I'm really sorry about my horrible microphone. I used a computer mic on a really old laptop (bad soundcard).

My son's channel. All the recordings are pretty old, the Chopin Walz was recorded in May 2007, the Mozart Concerto in Dec. 2007 and the Bach prelude and fugue in Jan. 2008 http://www.youtube.com/confuoco88

Oh well, I had never undergone the recording process, but thanks to Improviso, he recorded me at the recent piano party in Richmond. Here's the link: Mozart Sonata in C minor, K. 457 Allegro The video starts when I've already gotten through the first page of the piece. Pardon the errors in a live performance.

Thanks, Peyton. I seem to remember rather strategically getting up to play right after Bernard and Piano Again had finished entertaining. The room had mostly emptied. That likely contributed to calmness.

Here I am using a technique of cycling through chords on a single melody note. Please notice that the melody note is an Ab and you are able to play a different chord for each of the 12 possible bass notes to give the music alot of color

I don't think I will make a max payne midi of it - I mean there is a proper MP3 of the original song and midi files always sound so weak and pathetic...
plus they sound kind of gimmicky.

Cephas, That video is not publicly viewable. You have it available only for private viewing. You'll need to change the setting if you want the rest of us to be able to see it. Please do! My son (who someone had the temerity to point out is now TALLER than I am) just finished up the relatively simple Chopin etude 10/9. So we added it to his page: Etude in F Minor, Op. 10 no. 9

An unusual interpretation of Fur Elise. You definitely exercised some artistic liberties in straying from the actual score. But hey, to each his own right? and perhaps a little bit heavy on the sustain pedal.......

My last year at school on the piano playing Brahms' Quartet in G minor http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Yez4cMKktc4 Sorry about the video/audio quality! I have no idea who recorded this (I think it was our violinist) but anyway I was quite surprised to see it up on YouTube :p

I just did a Bach piece, normally done on violin, but I think I did a good job on it, apart from the odd slip up For all those who moan about youtube compressing your video and converting the original stereo to mono etc... just add &fmt=18 to the end of your url! Then you get the high quality original stereo video that you made, providing of course you recorded in stereo in the first place. If you look at my videos, you will see how I have placed links on the right of every video, these links I added the bit at the end, copied and pasted them to the video description, people can then click on them to watch the high quality version

Well, here's my introduction. Played this a year ago. I didn't have enough time for prep so it's really inaccurate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=em-M0P_-Kkg

I've been teaching myself recorder and ocarina for the last few months, but I wanted to progress to a more serious instrument. So I went to a pawn shop, bought the best keyboard I could afford, and have been teaching myself for about a week now. I'm video taping my progress, here's the first one I've made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFpMgMDn1eg

Hi KeysOnTheCeiling -- I invite you and my fellow Piano World members to check out my nine original compositions (so far!) on YouTube. The site is located at: http://www.youtube.com/user/robcattertonSome of them are jazz, some have a classical influence, and others are hard to categorize but the focus is on creating harmonic and beautiful sounds. All have improvised sections, and I hope you enjoy them! Best to you from here -- Rob Catterton
