Last night I recorded Beethoven "Les Adieux" last movement; Debussy "Pagodes"; Brahms intermezzo in E flat minor; and Ligeti "Autumn in Warsaw": mp3s on my web site at http://www.hanysz.net/audio/anpa2008/

It's a few years since I've recorded solo repertoire in the studio. It's very different from playing a concert! It took me a while to settle down, and there are some silly mistakes, but there are also lots of things I'm pleased with.

I'll be recording a second (hopefully better!) version in three or four weeks' time, and sending it off for my audition. So I'm very open to suggestions as to what I should be working on between now and then. (You can send comments directly to me, or post in the forum here, I don't mind which.)

Thanks for listening!

I liked your performance of Pagodes. I am learning this piece now, it's almost hypnotic, very tranquil and you communicated that well..... Apparently supposed to be his recreation of Gamelan music from Indonesia that he heard, a musical tradition with Oriental, Buddhist, and Indian influences over history. Apparently no one informed Debussy that Pagodas are from East, and not South-East, Asia. smile He did have glowing praise for the music he heard, though. Interesting trivia about the piece.

Thanks, Theowne, some interesting thoughts. I knew that Debussy wrote Pagodes after hearing a gamelan orchestra, but I've never paused to ask whether you'd find gamelan and pagodas in the same country!

I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions, but I enjoyed listening to all of them!

The piano is a percussion instrument.... You don't strum a piano. You don't bow a piano. You bang and strike a piano. You beat the sh*t out of a piano. -- Billy Joel
