Recorded on my Sauter 185 Delta. The first recording is after the first tuning, in May this year. The second recording is a few days after the second tuning, after I asked my technician to give it a more rounded, warmer tone. There are some minor missed notes. Do tell me which is preferred. Comments are welcome!

Wonderful performance! I play the piece myself and love it. You have captured the meandering dreaming very well.

The recording shows the exquisitely shimmering and yet dense Sauter tone. Sauter definitely deserves a place in the top tier and makes a nice complement to the other top tier European instruments. I wouldn´t mind alternating between your Sauter and my Blüthners. They are totally different instruments but equally beautiful.

Some day I will come around and buy a proper recording equipment for recording my Blüthners.

Thanks pianistical for your very kind comments! I think it is particularly easy to get the colours and nuances and "dreamy tone" on my Delta. I just tried playing this on a Hamburg Steinway B, and found it difficult to play as softly. Perhaps it was due to the more complex, less pure Steinway tone. I think it is even denser than the Sauter tone. But having said that, I think the Steinway action was more comfortable to play in faster passages.

My impression is that the Bluthner sound, when well prepped, would be somewhat less "dense" than the Sauter, but with a treble somewhat closer to the Ibachs. Check my recordings on the Ibach - I think those pianos really have the nicest treble I've ever heard, bar none!

Just wanted to say... I love this piece, so i downloaded your recording back when you first posted it. I'm a bit of a critic; I have very particular tastes for really well played music. I love the tone of this piano, and I really like the way you express this piece; soft, dreamy, every note given thier own perfect space, etc.

So, I had to say all this because this and the Ravel (pavane) recording are what I listen to most nights as I fall asleep. They never get old to me; very beautifully done! Of the different interpretations of those two pieces that I have heard, I like yours the best! Thanks.... and if you have more, post the links!

adding:

it's a really neat piano.... when played really soft, it sounds almost like a harp, doesn't it?

Thanks for the very kind comments. If you have time, do check out my recordings of Albeniz's Evocacion, the Liszt and Bortkiewicz Consolations, and the Rachmaninoff Prelude, amongst others. Most were recorded on the Ibach, rather than the Sauter. Either way, both are very nice pianos. My Sauter does indeed have a unique tone that I would describe as very "pure", particularly when played softly. Quite ideal for Debussy I think.

" If you have time, do check out my recordings of Albeniz's Evocacion"

Can you point me in the right direction? I don't remember where/how I got to the recordings I downloaded. Thanks!

aaa... am i the first to stand up and give you a standing ovation? Really, i stood up leh...

Beautifully recordered and played. Did you temporary off the de-himidifier? Does the aircon need to be turn off, or it doesn't matter? not i can hear it, but i always wonder if those motor noise do get into a good recordings....

thks

Hi Snoopycar,
The dehumidifier was turned off for the recording - too noisy. Aircon was probably turned off in this recording - it really depends on how noisy your aircon is, and also your mic and mixer set up. I believe I left the air con on in some of my other recordings.
